Wolves 0-2 Southampton (FAC): The Verdict

And we’d have got Bournemouth in the QF’s. Brilliant.

That’d be lovely, although the last one we beat Arsenal so you never know 😂
Text = shit
No text = slightly less shit

That'd give you something to look forward to at this rate at least. Watching wolves is a form of capital punishment at the moment

It was the plan. Nuno plays the kids so Southampton think we are so bad, they piss around in the league game, and we bomb them 5-0.
What? Oh, time to get up for work....

We didn't play the same way at all.

First half Vitinha and MGW played very narrow and the wing backs played wide. KJH had acres of space.

In patches some of the interplay was lovely to watch but the final ball was appalling, Moutinho and KJH guilty.

Some of the forward passing from the back 3 was superb and Neves when further forward linked some lovely balls into MGW.

Fabio was abysmal, no strength, no pace.

Second half we park the two Central midfielders on Saiss's toes and isolate MGW and Vitinha completely whilst dragging both WB's into a flat back 5. Terrible stuff from Nuno and his staff.

We then do revert to the same horseshoe by bringing on Neto and the terrible Traore.

Vitinha can't play as an inside forward/ 10 as he doesn't have the pace and isn't good receiving the ball with his back to goal. He's far better deeper where he can pick passes but for some inexplicable reason Nuno left Moutinho on who was clearly spent.

Silva isn't a striker who can lead the line but he looks as though he'd be decent if we play a two up top and he can go deeper to slide those little balls through he's pretty good at.

WJ looks utterly pissed off trying to lead the line with nobody near him and I don't blame him.

This was bad management by Nuno and he has to win at the weekend or he'll be on borrowed time.
Perhaps you should replace Nuno as you have all the answers? How you can state Fabio was abysmal when there was no one for him to pass to (as Jose also found out too)? Fabio still delivered the best pass of the match. Traore was terrible when he came on but no worse than Neto. In fact we looked worse after bringing on the big guns it could be argued. The fact is that Nuno failed to take the match seriously. Maybe he should pay the price.

Colin Taylor played for England U18's, not comparing him directly to Fabio, but the certainty from some that he will come good seems to be more that they've took a position they feel entrenched in than any real factual evidence. I described it in the Summer as a vanity project and it remains so. Now vanity projects aren't necessarily bad, they can pay off, but the first 6 months have been poor even though he's been exposed more than the plan would have been
Until Fabio has someone to pass to how will we ever know? Raul was lucky to have Jota last season as well as a more confident team.

Cant agree on Neto and Traore.

Neto only had one moment but he committed defenders and drew the foul just a shame Neves chose a crisp pass to the wall.

Traore didn't commit anybody and was well handled so resorted to committing fouls and getting booked.

Agree with everything except the second half of your last line :)

Have something constructive to say to me - just say you disagree & explain why. I guess you are aged 45 - act like a 45 year old. Your responses to my posts are pathetic. Disagree by all means - that is not a problem.

You could argue that Traore had two players on him so giving space to others? But he was terrible & got frustrated because nothing was working.

For me it's because i can see what he's about and what he is good at and what he will be good at. I've seen enough footballers develop and it's obvious how good a footballer he is. He's just in the wrong team at the wrong time trying to develop and and adapt to professional football. Put him in a side that dominated the ball, got bodies around him and runners off him and i think we would all see why he is so highly rated. It's actually criminal how we ask our strikers and wide forwards to play.

I can accept the lack of strength, he doesn't have pace so that it what it is, not a fan of the diving or rolling around but accept that's a cultural thing, I think his movement is good, but the one thing that is unforgiveable and has nothing to do with age is his finishing. It's woeful

He could maybe pass to someone else rather than just put his head down and go regardless of how many are around him

Not one Wolves player is currently capable of scoring it would seem. Perhaps because of woeful free kicks, woeful throw ins, woeful corners?

At least Nuno admits that tactically he got it wrong tonight, and they need to sort it out in front of goal. No shit sherlock on the latter..

I think he did a couple of times? Nobody up with him anyway usually.

I think that's spot on. In Liverpool's team he'd be in the Firmino role and you'll see his movement and combination play better.

Conflating 2 different things. I don't disagree with any of those, but he's had gilt edged chances and missed another tonight

Can we just fuck off the fucking horseshoe and have something in the middle occasionally

This is the part of him that is so frustrating, but you have to put some of the blame on the players around him to. Shout it from the rooftops if you have to. ADAMA, PASS INSIDE/OUTSIDE/DOWN THE LINE etc... 3 players on one = space for others. Use that space.
