The Video Games Thread II - The Resurrection

I did the midnight launch for Halo 2. Wasn't as exciting as it sounded earlier in that day.

Seems GAME are heading into real trouble. They already have to pick and choose what games they stock now rather than just stocking them all. After losing credit insurance a couple weeks ago publishers now want the money upfront from GAME to stock their games and they just can't afford to stock them all. They've had to cancel pre-orders on a couple of collectors/special editions of games as well as choosing not to stock any Ubisoft Vita launch games amongst others. They are now closing 35 more stores as well as shutting down gameplay.co.uk (which will redirect to gamestation.co.uk from March 1st). It's not looking a big year for games either with really only Mass Effect 3, Bioshock, CoD, Resi 6 and the usual Fifa's as the big games. How much longer can they last? Not at all helped by their ridiculous pricing. I went in to get Mario land 3ds a few weeks ago and it was £40. Ended up getting it for £25 off play.com. They are simply not even in the same ball park as online retailers for price.

I have a Vita and it is bloody brilliant fifa is a near ps3 product. It seems more fifa 11 than fifa 12 but it is really good.

Agreed, it's impressive. Uncharted: Golden Abyss even more so (esp. as I managed to take advantage of the PSN glitch and get it for 79p).

It wouldn't work for me. I'm still waiting for my £5 off escape plan. I've won 5 in 25 on fifa as wolves so at least it is very authentic

Starting playing F12 Ultimate Team again and then a week later discovered Football Manager 12... I am freaking addicted.

Still waiting for the new Forza and Saints row to get around $20 before buying...

Bloody cheap arse americans i have nothing i can really say other than :vuz:

football manager is annoying me I thought i'd leave the wolves squad as it is play 4-4-2 and after 23 games im F**king 3rd 3 points off top  there goes my relegation struggle fun

I may be a lot of things, but cheap isn't among the list. In rare cases I'll buy new or off-sale, but I've been burned way too many times by paying $60 for a brand new game only for it to have less than 10 hours of gameplay or suck giant donkey balls. For several years now I've purchased a ton during black friday (massive sales, b1g1, b2g1, 80% off, etc.). I can stock up on enough highly reviewed/talked-about games for chaep, be set until the next black friday, and not loathe the wasted money if one sucks.

$20 games for me please.

I wish I had that problem. Guess I can't complain though, I'm in I think 9th about 25 games in. I've pissed off half the squad by trying to sell them though, which is kinda funny but a bit of a pain in the ass.

Not offended, just saying I've been burnt too many times with crappy games, so I rarely buy new. :)

It's been confirmed that Assassins Creed 3 will be set in the American Revolution.

I have to say I'm disappointed by this. I love my history, but don't really care for that era. Of all the periods to choose!!

The American War of Independence is a pretty interesting period. You have us lot being all colonial and nasty (or giving Adolf Hitler a few early tips, if you believe Mel Gibson) plus the French stirring the shit as well. Not a bad conflict that one, even if we did technically lose a bit.

The French revolution would have been better.

I reckon they're saving the World Wars for a future installment.

French revolution would have been absolutely fucking fantastic, but the best of all would be the thirty years war - everyone was an utter bastard to everyone else in that little tete-a-tete. Perfect background for Assassin's Creed lunacy.

The best would have basically been I, Claudius - the game. But as an Assassin. Awesome.

Mel Gibson only speaks the truth! Down with Britain, and Jews! And don't even get us started on Jew-Brits...

I agree with Langdale. Going from Rome and Cyprus to colonial America is pretty lame, but I guess it ties in with how Desmond's ancestry makes it over to the states.

Talking about the price of games - I now refuse to pay over £20 for any game.

Although I can't wait for Mass Effect 3, I shall wait until the Ultimate Edition with all the DLC on is released. I'm in no hurry.
My mate has just bought Fallout 3 Ultimate Edition with all the DLC for £9.99 - what a bargain.
I've just bought Gothic 3 for £3.99. That's over 300 hours of top class gaming for the price of a pint.

I really fancy Kingdoms Of Amalur. £40? Fuck Off. This time next year it will be £19.99 with DLC.

The only exception to this rule was Skyrim - and even then my PC copy with Game discount card cost me less than £25.

If you play games on the PC as well as a console, the Steam sales are just unbelievable. I've just not got the time to play them all (it's like all those books I bought for 99p at Christmas for my Kindle!)

Don't get ripped off. The games will still be there in 5 years time - and they will be just as good.

My man!

Don't know if this has been covered but Game are not stocking Mass Effect 3 due to 'stocking issues'

Can't imagine they will be around much longer

Went back to Mass Effect 2 last night - played some of the unfinished DLC to get me used to the controls ready for next week. The Shadow Broker - bought it a while back but never got around to playing it.

Just how fucking awesome is that game? It doesn't seem to have aged at all, it's great to play. Absolutely love it.
