The Royals

Debate content, not semantics.

The “Three Branches” of our government all have some ability to override the decisions of the others. The Judiciary most explicitly (and tbf the Executive and Legislative branches can’t repeal a judicial decision, only attempt to force a re-review).

The President is the figurehead, so in that sense they are “on top” but from a legal point of view they are not “above” Congress or the Supreme Court.

Yet most people around the world can name the president but not the leaders of the other 2 houses or probably a single member of the judiciary.

It's about perception more than anything.

And I'll debate what I like thanks 😁

How can you take that view of the Presidency and yet brush off the influence of the Royals like it’s nothing?

Isn’t this exactly what you’re arguing the Royals don’t have?

They don't have any influence Alan. Regardless of what some may tell you they are purely ceremonial.

As far as I know the President of the USA isn't.

Okay, let’s accept that. What makes your PM different from the President, then?

CarrieAntoinette Johnson had "influence", and she wasn't a Royal, no matter what she thought...
Lots of rich people have influence, particularly with this government.

I mean there are plenty of laws that affect my life that I'd like to change but strangely enough nobody gives a shit.

The Crown didn't decree anything. It was ceremonial and nothing the crown could have done about it even if they had objected.

Try again.

Lobbyists from Tufton St. Loan givers to various ministers. Right wing loons that happen to be donors.

All have influence.

It's a desperate strawgrab from some to prove they're right. Although why is beyond me .

The fact that others have influence is irrelevant. The Monarchy is meant to be different.

I have no time for the Royal family whatsoever and think they are leeches. But that’s my personal view. To pretend they have any great power is palpable nonsense so if people want to like them and revel in the coronation who am I to say they shouldn’t? If royalists enjoy it then fair play to them. Equally, I can ignore the whole thing. And that’s fine too.
The voice of reason, who'd have thought😃
