The Race to be Relegated with Wolves, 24/25 Thread

Totally agree with all this but this is where we are.

I’d certainly rather celebrate staying up on goal difference, as opposed to watching us play in that cesspit of a Championship.
It's all a bit hollow for me. Without any ambition and potentially entering our 8th season the notion of being in the PL is better than the reality. I'm not suggesting I want us to go down, I don't, however we'll be doing exactly the same watching Burnley or Sheff U games next season. It's not what being a football fan should be about on an ongoing basis.

If you offered me a season in the Championship with a promotion at the end or another year in the PL targeting 17th then the former would be a hell of a lot more enjoyable

Whilst I share the sentiment that Fosun can get fucked...I do believe that if Wolves had anything like a fit and proper recruitment set up then I think they'd be reasonably fine and top half of the table?

If you look at the dough they've done recently in January for example, I can't help but feel if scouted properly then that money could get you far better than say Munetsi...I know that I'm picking on him a little but he looks awful!

They've wasted a ton of money on shite to downgrade on virtually every position, bar the odd exception. But even those rare examples are still a downgrade under what they had in that first Premier League season under Nuno.

In short with proper people in the right positions, and not shit like Hobbs, I do believe with the money spent they could be way better off.

Its all pretty pathetic. After several years at this level which began with FA Cup semis and playing at a good level in the Europa, we now find ourselves in the shit position as the only club that is in battle with 3 of the worst PL teams there has been, everyone else has pulled away at quite an early stage of the season except us. I too was wanting a United win last night despite the fact I despise them, ordinarily would be rooting for a team like Ipswich to defy the odds and stay up

I keep hoping that we learn from our transfer mistakes but it seems not, we have such a scattergun approach.
Even if we survive I worry about next season. We're losing Cunha and at least one more big hitter imo. As was said yesterday or the day before, I'm incredulous at the amount of dross in the squad, which we're unlikely to be able to move on for actual money and they're costing loads of money in wages.

Of the current squad I'd say only Cunha, Joao Gomes, Andre, RAN and Agbadou would get anywhere near Nuno's squad

With the personnel heading it up there is no learning from the transfer mistakes because they don't have the capacity - they have proven time and time again they have no idea how to value players correctly, be that selling or buying.

They aren't interested in that. Fosun want Shi in charge, there is nothing to suggest otherwise. Shi is an autocrat, he only wants to work with the Hobbs' and Sellars' of this world who he can manipulate and won't challenge him or Mendes when told to. While they and he are in charge nothing will change.

Yes probably agree with Semedo but wasn't he in Nuno's squad anyway? I like RG but haven't seen enough yet to include him
He was, although his season under him was probably his worst. He cost us £30m, he's been a first teamer for 5 years so you couldn't call him a bad signing, but if we've got our money's worth it's because of the longevity - the bar for a £30m full back is pretty high

I like R Gomes too but the jury is still out on what he really excels at. His time may come and his work rate, enthusiasm and deliveries from wide areas are good but I’m yet to be convinced they’ll be anyone decent willing to take him off our hands any time soon. Being OK is a shite indictment to what our recruitment team has become.

I'm not sure I'd sign him again if I could go back tbh. He's been good as a right back, but I don't think he's been £30m and £100k a week good. No doubt he wouldn't look out of place at most other clubs in the league either at the same time, which sounds like a conflict, but at that end of the market, if you get solid for that money, you're over the moon. We need exceptional and undeniably impactful for that money, and other than Trent I don't think any right back is worth us spending £60m on for five years

I think top half without an injection of cash is pushing it. We’d have to get more signings right than wrong which is unlikely, though obviously there’s huge scope for improvement. As a self-sufficient club we’d be behind a lot more than ten teams. Off the top of my head we’d be reliant on a lot of clubs underperforming in the way Spurs and Man United have this season. As well as those two we’re miles behind Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, Newcastle, Villa and West Ham. Throw in Everton with a new ground, and Brighton who actually know how to recruit well and suddenly top half looks a long way off.

When we sell Cunha plus at least one other we need to use the incoming money to both replace them and strengthen elsewhere. Given our recruitment in recent years 17th is likely to be the height of our ambition and with Leeds coming up I suspect we’ll be sucked down the plug next year if we survive this one.

It'd be a big exercise, but I wonder what our hit rate on signings has been since Nuno left?

Cunha, Gomes and Andre clearly 3 excellent signings.

Beyond that its hard to say which have been anywhere near that level?
