Maybe Lop is on his way out and he's making a few 'scorched earth' signings first... 🖕

It doesn't even make sense as a "let Dexter go out on loan" signing as we've got Bolla.

How can this be happening? Is it a terrible joke? Do they think it’s a crowd pleaser? Maybe it is. Oh shiiiiiiiittt :(

I don't think this sets the tone for the rest of our business tbf. Seems a signing of convenience in a position of minor need. Obviously this is far from the sort of thing we (the forum) wanted to kick things off in terms of incomings, but it's not quite as if we've just signed Leon Clarke to fix our striker issues.

Now, if we sign Doc and then jettison Nelson...

What’s even more bizarre than us wanting him back is that Doherty would turn down Saudi £££ to sign for us instead.

5-3-2 solves our:

- Role for Cunha
- Lack of quality/suitability of wide forwards
- Maximises use of attacking traits of LBs on the books
- Good balance in midfield
- Kilmans best form
- More height in the team

Semedo is the only player it doesn’t work for…

(None of the above means we should sign Matt Doherty)

I think it does actually. Signing someone who is nowhere near good enough to play even a minute for us in the position we've signed him for because he's free and been here before is the epitome of laziness.

My point is that if we were making such a "lazy" signing in a position of actually dire need, it would ring more alarm bells for me. As it is, we're relatively okay at RB so to an extent I can let it roll off my back as I can still plausibly deny to myself that Doc may actually be viewed as first choice at some stage.

Presumably we’ve got to pay him actual wages though. He won’t even be that cheap, god knows how. Maybe if he was doing it in a volunteer capacity…

Adding one crappy player does not a season tank. That's all.

My feelings on Doc are known but it's way, way too early to get gloomy. There's a whole 9 months of the season for that.

How much did we sell Doherty for?

We're in the same position after paying him however much we are in wages that we are now? We still don't have anyone who can play right back regularly in the premier League bar Semedo. if anything its detrimental because that money could have gone towards someone we will actually have use for.
