The tyres are a bit of a joke as well to be honest, there is far too much focus on looking after them rather than trying to drive as fast as possible. Obviously it's up to the teams to find ways to stop the tyre problems as much as possible and Mercedes clearly are failing massively in that regard.
It isn't right, but he's only come out and started moaning because his team have been dispatched with absolute ease. You won't hear anything from them if they win at Monaco by half a minute.
I think all teams would be the same, you'll put up with it if you're winning but moan when you stop. I think all involved in F1 probably agree that the tyre situation is a bit of a joke this year, the only good thing imo is that it seems to have stopped the Seb Vettel train.
Yet Pirelli have said there are only one team who are rigorously advocating for change. Red Bull.
Ferrari's strategy was't about looking after their tyres yesterday. They went for it in every stint rather than pussy footing around like the Lotus of Kimi. The disparity yesterday to the Red Bull was down to them trying to eek out a three stop strategy but then realising too late that they couldn't do it, so they had to stop again. Ferrari knew what they were doing from the off.
Mercedes are fucked regardless in my opinion. A car that destroys its tyres to that extent is going to be at a relative disadvantage to the other teams even if they change the compounds. They need to change what's going on at their end first.
Protests from Red Bull and Ferrari over Pirelli testing new tyres a few weeks ago with a 2013 Mercedes. Should be interesting as Mercedes say they had FIA approval.
I agree. The thing is, I don't understand why the approved it at all. Thought the regs were no testing on this years car? If they have approved it though then surely the protest is doomed to fail?
