The F1 Thread

Really? 1000km of testing should be allocated to each team then.
That's a monumental advantage that Mercedes have gained.

All depends what tyres they were testing. On the grid walk Paul Hembry insisted it wasn't anything that will be used this year or would give Mercedes an advantage.

Also, he said that they offered it to all the teams, and plenty turned it down.

Bit annoyed that Vettel and Red Bull got lucky with the safety car timing to prevent the Mercedes 1/2, although Hamilton has said he was slightly too far behind Nico before his pitstop so didn't minimise the time he lost.

the tyre testing this is weird - I assume they've exploited a loophole in the regulations and hence been given approval by the FIA and just kept quiet about it so no one copied them.

fair play to Lewis for holding his hands up on that one as well. Getting used to drivers blaming anything and everything other than themselves.

Yeah it was good to hear that for once, too many drivers sound like spoilt kids who are sore losers too often. Don't blame people for being pissed off with Grosjean and Perez though, I think the guys at the front showed how to drive properly, no diving in/risky moves just pressuring and hoping to force a mistake to take advantage of (as Hamilton almost did on Webber). Some of the stuff Perez did today was like me playing F1 on the playstation.

Sounds to me from what I can make out that if anyone's in the wrong it's Pirelli - they asked Mercedes if they could use their cars to test the tyres and should have also asked every other team. Maybe they did and they just didn't answer, it wouldn't be unknown.

10 place grid penalty at Canada for Grosjean, doesn't look like he's learning from his mistakes much.

Toto Wolff already told Sky that it wasn't a team decision to tell Hamilton to back off from Rosberg. Lewis was hardly coming out cap in hand with a revelation.

Kimi Raikkonen about Perez

: "That won't help. Maybe someone should punch him in the face."

Gotta love Kimi - that's his next T-shirt slogan sorted then.

No but if that been Button or the like he would be saying the safety car released the Red Bull's too soon or that they went to fast. He made a fuck up, held his hands up and life goes on.

The issue with the tyre testing is that Mercedes did the tests on this years car, which is not allowed. They could be in a spot of bother.

Not sure how they can be in trouble if they really did have approval

Ferrari International Assistance will retrospectively remove the approval and invoke some subclause somewhere along the line no doubt.:icon_rolleyes:

On a more serious note, I suspect the whole thing may get lost in sorting the tyre degradation issue out generally.

You didn't just say Ferrari International Assistance....

It's not 2004!

Singapore? Very nice.

Hoping to get to Monza this year, race day is on my birthday.

Just depends on what I can arrange. Flights and hotels are still available so I am trying to get some tickets bunged into the package.

Seems like Mercedes are deep in the shit now.

Interesting weekend ahead at Montreal.

It's an absolute tyre killer normally, so if Mercedes are suddenly competitive....

It's never really been a Red Bull track, Alonso's not got the best record here and Ferrari are coming off the back of a poor weekend, the McLaren's aren't likely to be quick enough and Hamilton doesn't sound very confident due to his braking issues, despite being superb to watch around here in the past.

Lotus? We know they're kind on the tyres but there are still doubts over their real pace.

Looking forward to it, even if I've agreed to work Sunday night.

I think it could be a great race. Really interested and looking forward to it.

They're only getting new tyres in free practice though. I think if Mercedes suddenly become competitive from Silverstone when the new compound will be used, especially with their rear tyres, then we'll know Pirelli's insistence they never ran any of this year's compounds was probably a porkie.

I reckon the tribunal will find them guilty of using this year's car but let them off fairly lightly. Probably a decent sized fine.
