The Football News Thread 2024/25

Are they? We bought the league, so have they.
They've got new owners and are more hopeful for the future than they have been in decades.

We were on the back of two really depressing seasons and getting back to where we should be at the very least.

Not quite to the same extent, they spent £15m on one player didn’t they?
They did. We bought the best players from the other teams in the league McDonald, Dicko, cough Clarke cough. Different methodology, but still using your financial muscle to get up.

Decades? They won a major trophy 14 years ago. I don't dispute the feel good factor, but people on here said they don't have the fan base to regularly pull in 35k+ crowds. If they are getting mid to high 20s in League 1 then they clearly do.

We will see when they return to the champ.

There is potential. But they are boxed in

Could overtake the shit if they could grow in that direction

29k ground though

They can be solid top flight

I think they will follow where we have gone and will hit a ceiling where the owners are tested more than they expected.

Ours vanished up their own arse, will see what these do. More likely to go down the crazy route and as they like to talk as much shite as Jeff does, it won't take much for their fans to turn back on them.

They still got relegated that season.

Let's see, they've still got a long way to go. I suspect they'll be like we were, when things are going well they'll get more fans. If they sustain it then it's possible.

There's an element of build it and they will come. Nobody would have said that Brighton could sustain 30k+ crowds a few years ago. Blues like a lot of clubs have a lot of dormant fans, nearly 40 years ago now, but we took 45k to Wembley 2 years after getting 4k home attendances.

Their plan for a 60k ground is either bravado that'll be scaled down closer to the time or just bloody delusional though.

I was just thinking if they're smart with their pricing too they could well end up getting some floating fans.

If they get it fairly right then they relegate the shit to 4th in the west midlands

I could live with that
When we get relegated we'll be in competition with the shit. Maybe not straight away but its hard not to see us getting into terminal decline in the next few seasons

I think they are different but the wider point of them becoming bigger if they got it right is also true.

They averaged 21k last season and 16k in 2022/23 so there's definitely been a paradigm shift within the club to be relegated and average attendances growing significantly.

We were down to the bare bones of goodwill and trust of the club with £35 refunded off season tickets.

Off the field Birmingham are further ahead than we were but we're pretty much neck and neck on it in terms of 'buying the league'

Las Palmas en camino for the drop, despite their wonderkid. Impossible to believe that Valencia or Alaves will fail to finish above them now.
