Southampton 2 Wolves 3 verdict thread

At least with Jaqcui Oatley on there now she can put them all right with regards to us. Not that I ever watch it.

Good watch can be a bit so called traditional top 6 weighted. But was a couple of throw away comments that she put right pretty sharpish. In fairness Neil Custis who isn’t my favourite journo was full of praise for us.

Can I point out that not only is Raul the best penalty taker I've ever seen for Wolves, he must surely be one of the best in the world currently. Does he ever miss them?

Missed one for us in a friendly in Germany.

This whole “poster bashing” thing needs to stop whenever someone says something critical.

I literally posted one comment on the matchday thread (because I was watching the game on my phone) at half time, which was a fairly accurate assessment on the first half performance. Of course it wasn’t full of praise because we weren’t playing well at that point.

I got accused of “moaning and complaining” and weirdly “being smug”, yet I log on to read the verdict thread this morning and it’s full of people moaning and complaining about people moaning and complaining. Which to me, is far worse and those posts come across far more “smug”, given the result at the full time whistle.

People are allowed to comment negatively on the side (within reason) when we aren’t playing well - and people are allowed to comment positively when we are playing well. Those posters that generally have a glass half full view on things are actually massive hypocrites and it’s making a lot of the threads on here tedious to read.

Anyway.

In the second half, Nuno did exactly what a lot of us have wanted him to do for a while; he got players closer to Raul - and it made such a massive difference. Night and day between the two halves. Huge credit to Nuno and the players for turning it around. Adama was poor in the first half but looked like a world beater in the second half. Neto was superb in the second half and the position he played seemed to suit him. Even Moutinho struggled badly in the first half and was misplacing simple passes - but in the second half he had a look about him which said “I’m going to sort this out”.

I can’t wait for when we stop conceding first - we’ll be unstoppable! :icon_lol:

It genuinely wouldn’t surprise me if we take some points off Liverpool on Thursday. Hopefully we’ll have a new face or two in by then as well.

From someone at the game - we really weren't THAT bad in the first half). Something I logged on to say at the time. Some individuals were struggling/having off days but in terms of the game 2-0 extremely flattered them. I saw several Saints fans on their forum say that too.

Jinky - it’s not about criticism per se, it’s those completely OTT, knee jerk, hyperbolic reactions - disgraceful, embarrassing, depressing, and the like.

Fair enough on the first bit - I was extremely overtired and cranky, so I will even offer my apologies.

Onto the second bit - I totally agree. The small tweak that brought the front three closer together really did seem to be the catalyst for a total changearound and brilliant comeback. Lovely tactical move by Nuno.

Third bit - you would be right! Only Liverpool have dropped fewer points than us from winning positions. I make it we have dropped 2 (away at Brighton we were 1-0 up, and I cannot think of any more). However, I also believe we have been in the lead for the fewest minutes in the entire division, which is bloody bizarre considering our league position.

Fourth bit - I don't know why, there should be no logic to it when you consider the machine that they are, but I can see us getting a win against Liverpool on Thursday. I don't know why but it is just a feeling I have. I cannot wait for Thursday, I am really looking forward to it.

One other thing. I appreciate that the match thread on here would have looked a bit of a mess yesterday, but we are the lucky ones. If you can bear it, have a look at the incredible spats flying about on Molineux Mix yesterday. The match thread disintegrated into basically a massive bun fight and there have been about ten different threads shouting down one side or the other that have had to be locked as every poster is on a points scoring crusade. Thank God we aren't mods on there, we would have aged about ten years in sorting the mess out!

Now, I hate match day threads and don't contribute to them. Reason...if I did I think I would be OTT, Knee jerk etc etc. I know if I was played back my reactions and comments when at a game, I would be deeply embarrased by what I was saying. So a Match Day Thread is simply people doing that. Horrible to read at the time and even worse if you read back through after a game. It would be better for everyone if stupid OTT comments were not dragged back up (unless it is to have a jab at Jinks, then carry on*). If people are still doing the OTT shite after the game, then fair game IMO

*Love you really Jinks

I watched it live on Satellite so no buffering issues.
We had it on 5 screens including 100" screen.

I stand by all my comments from the first half.
I Al's stand by my comments second half and after the game

First half was awful if not one of the worst first half of any game since Nuno took over.

There have been a couple worse .
This team just do not know when they have been beaten they are a joy to watch when they play as they did in the second half.

I think the first half at Carrow Road was probably worse. Not by a lot, but that's how I would call it.

Mind you, the second half rather made up for it. We went from disappointing to utterly tremendous.

Agree with that - we’ve always been better second half, and that looks like by design - but our first halves haven’t been great recently. Really hope we can stop conceding first every game soon.

So I was at the game yesterday and I also didn’t think we were that bad first half. Bad, but not totally appalling.

Two shit goals conceded - Saints were hardly all over us, just took their (2?) chances.

I noticed that Nuno sent ya out eat sky for the second half? No idea what he said, but it worked.

We were definitely better but nowhere near as fantastic as some thought - once we scored, Saints totally caved in, they lost it, panic clearances and arguing amongst themselves - I just watched us grow into the game and it was clear we’d have a good chance of winning after the penalty.....

So, we were good second half.......but we’ll play loads better and lose games, and much worse and win games too.

Pretty much this. I used to have a rule to ignore match day threads as it’s used as a place for people to vent / panic / etc during a game. I should stick to that really.

Agreed but if you say something outlandishly wrong such as 'Neto is stinking up the place' then regardless of whether its your opinion, you should be called out on it or at least the matter discussed . surely ?? Your status should not entitle you to such conveniences of not being questioned.

I use the match day threads quite often, obviously not when I'm at the game or watching on TV as I'm occupied....erm watching the game.
I just gloss over the OTT comments, its a passionate sport, people get wound up at little things, I do too, never understand why people get personal about it. As mentioned above if someone still is being OTT after the dust has settled then they're fair game

Imagine wanting everyone to have the same opinion and reaction to everything. Why bother having a forum? One person posts the official approved message and we all just upvote.

Football is a sport that invokes emotional responses and in the heat of the moment people spew out their emotions. It's normal. Criticism of those who react emotionally is ridiculous. It isn't going to stop people doing it. In fact it just makes those people come across as smug, supercilious and arrogant. Even when they probably aren't.

Yeah probably agree.
Dont think there was much in it tho.
Nuno made me laugh when they asked what did you say at half time.

He said "a lot"
