Southampton 2 Wolves 3 verdict thread

I was working today so missed the game and all the updates, can someone explain what we did tactically in the second half? Is it something that may help us in the future or was it more like something that just worked in the situation?

As much as I love a comeback it’d be nice to score first for a change!

Played Neto behind Traore and Raúl. Meant we got Traore in behind more often. Raul had more players around him. Neves and Joao covered an incredibly amount of ground. In general though just more aggressive and more direct

Christ, PW we're entitled to express a bit of concern. I'm not looking for "something that's not there," I'm simply asking other members of the forum for a bit of reassurance

That's fine my friend. I hope you now feel suitably reassured. Looks all good as far as we can tell, so lets enjoy the win.

Thanks, hopefully I can track down some extended highlights at some point

Yep but the saints manager claiming the assault on Jonny isn’t a penalty! Well . Stevie wonder gives that a penalty
Maybe Stevie should have been the tef then...

I can see why the didnt give it as his view point he has no clue if they got the ball or not but that is exactly the reason VAR was added to the game. No idea why it took them numerous looks to give it though.

Hassenhutl thinks it wasn't a penalty.

Okaaaayyyy

That was a really weird interview. He seemed really angry about the penalty being given, it could hardly have been a more clear penalty.

Think it was a case of him being frustrated by the outcome in reality when he looks at it again with a calmer head he knows it’s a clear penalty. Having said that who was on co comms this afternoon who also thought it wasn’t a penalty? Davie Provan or Andy Walker I’m guessing.

First half was shit. Literally really bad. One of the first times if not the first time I had literally no interest in drinking my beer quickly to see the second half (the service In there was truly abysmal btw).

But the first time we passed to each other in the final third we scored. Then I couldn’t see how we weren’t going to win.

The ref had an OK game generally, but seriously how are you not giving that assault as a pen. That is why VAR will remain for these ineptitude’s.

As for VAR. Said to the people around me limbs were inbound, felt a winner was an inevitability. Then we get the winner and I barely celebrate because I think it’s getting ruled out for offside (they then bizarrely say “checking handball”, which clearly to me 30 yards away there wasn’t anything remotely close). Goal was given and the moments gone. We got the 3 points happy days, but I could have got the same emotional benefit from my lounge.

Who knows? Even Matt Le Tissier and Francis Benali would have agreed with the final decision.

Some Scottish guy who started by complaining that the ref hadn't given a penalty, then complained even more when VAR did give it.

Well, I was in my lounge and I couldn't celebrate the goals either. Still can't believe we've had two good goals not chalked off and a wrong pen decision overturned. I was sure they'd use Adama's 'handball' to fuck us over again. Perhaps Stockley Park is developing a conscience. Even the comms portrayed us as victims.

I couldn't agree more !

There seemed to be an interminable delay for each Wolves goal as if VAR was trying to find a way to screw us over. The length of time to give the penalty was utter bulltish. I even expected the penalty to be re-taken for encroachment
