Refereeing question

He's a decent ref normally. But his desire to buck the trend does let him down even if he may sometimes be doing it for the right reasons to an extent

The system of demoting referees for a few games is just not acceptable. Clubs in the lower divisions take exception to referees being deemed to be not up to standard in the premier league, but good enough for lower divisions. It also puts extra pressure on the referee. Our view has been that there should be a suspension system in place for referees who fail to perform to the required standard.

100% agreed.

Demotion is totally unfair on the clubs that get blessed with the referee deemed unsuitable for a premier league game.

Random rules question. Is it permitted to "boost" your own player up for a header, such as the lift in a rugby line-out?

Just popped into my head while watching this game without comms.

I think that's illegal. Like carrying the ball in your shirt.

It should be classed as unsporting behaviour.

Badly! Very badly!

One that interested me, and should definitely be forwarded to many tv pundits is the one about the offence starting outside the penalty area and continuing inside being a penalty. So often you hear "the foul started outside the box and so it should be a free kick"

Based on knowledge of the rules rather than cuntitude, obvs...

I averaged about 50%.

Most of the questions are silly things that never happen though.

I might have a go at the kicking a corner into your own goal on FIFA to see if it is up on the rule. Only a goal if the keeper touches it.

I turned up for the test on time and in the right clothing, that should give me a few extra marks surely?

I think that means your entitled to £60k p/a

Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey has been banned for life by Fifa for what it calls "match manipulation".

The ban results from a penalty he awarded to South Africa in a 2-1 win over Senegal in a 2018 World Cup qualifier in November.

He penalised Kalidou Koulibaly for handball, but replays showed the ball hit his knee.

Easy to ban a referee from a small federation - hope we see it happening more often in the bigger leagues too. Won't hold my breath though.

He hasn't been banned because of the country of his affiliation, but because of his disgraceful behaviour. I would expect any referee who tried to manipulate a result to be banned for life.
