Next Manager chat.

Tim 1 reckons a decision - not necessarily an announcement - could be made today.

Still scratching my head around the Lambert or Pearson rumours. If we really haven't looked further afield then I'd be extremely disappointed.

I'd rather they used the international break to interview some other names. No great rush to appoint as even if they do name someone before the weekend, they'd have minimal input on the Derby match.

Quite right - anyone appointed now will have no impact on what happens against Derby & we don't then play for 2 weeks.

Use the time sensibly to ensure all avenues have been fully explored

I suppose we'll just have to see who's sitting in the crowd on Saturday.

Please not Pearson. He's a poor man's Mick McCarthy, but without any of the likeability.

A dinosaur of a coach, a 442 merchant and a thoroughly awful demeanour about him. Please, please no.

It will be Lambert who gets the gig

Certainly the better option of the 2 but still - a bit underwhelmed.

Nevertheless, whoever occupies the home dugout gets my full support.

Or you could see it as 2 weeks for a new manager to get to know his squad better before the next match.

or some of the squad - Some will be away until the Wed/Thursday before the next League match

Agreed yeah, miserable selection but I'll try and take a bit of positivity from those who think he's the best option.

His Norwich spell was good which caused him to headhunted by Villa, he started off quite well there too until Learner lost interest and as for the Venky's.

Not that I want Pearson but why the hate on 4-4-2 our last 2 promotions came from this formation.

Our last promotion wasn't. If you mean our last two promotions to the PL then I would say that this reflects the tactical inflexibility of Jones and McCarthy whon only knew one way to play, irrespective of whether we had the players to play it.

I don't think you can dominate football matches with two central midfielders, two wide midfielders and two strikers. It means a wide man having to tuck in (causing imbalance) or a front man having to sit deep (leaving the other isolated). I just don't think it's an effective formation these days. There are exceptions to the rule eg Leicester last year- but the key for them was Kanté who controlled their midfield plus the speed at which they could turn defence into attack.

If this is to be the answer (though not sure what question they asked to get that) then the least worst option from the names bandied around. Hopefully he has had enough time out to reflect on where he went wrong.

Despite the takeover & the untold millions we now have :) possibly a reflection on where we stand as a club just now

Whoever it is must be given a reasonable amount of time to get them playing how they want.

The squad hasn't changed so I don't think we'll see an immediate improvement! I just hope we have 1 or 2 quality centre backs lined up for January!

It is very much this.

We won't really feel the force of what we have until we are out of this Division. It would hard to get a top Euro coach here in pre-season in the Championship, never mind when you are at the arse end of the division.

The question is will he pick Dynamic Dave?? Will Doc somehow continue to masquerade as a championship footballer?

Either way if it is to be Lambert he has my full support, I would love nothing more than him to take us up and do well so I can't taunt my Villa supporting friends.

How does one striker coming deep in a 442 leave the other isolated any more so than if you were playing a formation with only one forward to begin with?

There's nothing inherently wrong with playing 442 but you need some of the fluidity that you've just criticised to make it effective in some situations, pulling an extra man into midfield at times if you're outnumbered there for example, being inflexible is what would kill it but then that's true of any formation.

It really won't take much to improve with what we have

A bit of organisation and structure will take this team a long way. Not Top 4 but enough to make us look at the top 6 and hope.

Because the two wide forwards will be there to support the lone striker. Agree with you though, Arsenal often play 442 (in theory) and this has never caused them to lack fluidity.

Anyway, my labelling of Pearson as a 442 merchant is because he strikes me as the type of manager who knows no different to 442 and will stick to that formation regardless.

The squad is certainly good enough to be in the top 6 with the right organisation.

I've no doubts that Lambert would get more out of this squad than Walt did but as I said a few days ago, I'm really not sure how high he could take us.

Of course I'm prepared to get behind him and give him a chance though if that's who Fosun appoint.
