Sorry, did I miss something (likely given the size of this thread)? Has it been officially stated we are only looking at British options?

Tim Spiers claimed the other day that Wolves favour a proven British appointment this time

I would. Lambert of Norwich maybe. Since then he has been a dour busted flush.

Lambert became riddled with fear with his Villa side afraid of losing their compact shape which meant they hardly ventured out of their own half. No thanks.

Had a text from my old man saying Lambert will be announced tomorrow. Never gets involved with gossip and what not so I don't know where he's heard it. Anyone else heard anything?

Can you ask him where he heard it?

I'm not convinced Tim II knows a lot.
He went out on a limb refuting the rumours that Zenga was off after the Leeds game. Obviously wrong.

I think he's taking others' lead in going with this angle.

Hope you're right Paddy, I would much prefer a Silva or a Pereira to these underwhelming British options being mentioned

That's the problem with all the British managers we're apparently looking at - they've all failed, and badly.

That’s because if they have a bit of experience at a reasonable level and haven’t failed they would be looking well above where we are. Even the likes of Eddie Howe, Mark Hughes and Pardew have failed.

It seems to me the British options that are available aren't good enough, and the employed ones that are good enough wouldn't want to come to us.

Clough is generally quite cautious. Though he had Burton scoring a few goals this season, especially early on.

I'd rather look at Heckingbottom than Clough. He can bring Hourihane with him too.

Vague Twitter rumour of Sami Hypia, probably false and he doesn't really have any credentials to suggest he would get the job.

I thought he was hard done by at Leverkusen but shambolic at Brighton (where multiple managers have got them into the top six, so it was obviously his fault that he failed).

He was an absolute bombscare at Brighton. Their fans despised him. He played some bastarsided 3-5-2 with players all over the shop.

I don't know where Tim II got his info from about Wolves wanting a British manager/coach, and I'm not saying it's wrong.

Fosun have already sacked a British manager so they could bring in an Italian one in the place of a Spanish one they had lined-up who went, unsurprisingly, to manage his national side when given that option.

So surely, if you are Fosun, you would look for a manager who has quality and a proven record of management in football, and to limit yourself to someone who is British, would be counter-productive if there are better non-British options available, and there certainly are.

While I think Fosun may have expressed a preference for a British manager, I feel they will struggle to find one that will meet the criteria needed to achieve their known goals.

Who's your choice if we're going for a British manager than langers?
I'd rather we went for Silva or Pereira TBH but if we had to go British I'd go for Rowett. Above Sherwood I'd choose Lambert, Pearson, Allardyce and I don't want any of those.

There aren't many choices who would make me think 'I'd prefer Tim Sherwood'. Probably Ince, Saunders, Hoddle and my ex mother in law but that's about it. Sherwood is a terrible manager.

Fair enough, we'll have to agree to disagree - I wouldn't want Pearson at all, I think he's a lunatic, and I wouldn't want allerdyce as I think he's a crook. I think freedman is a terrible manager and I'm not massively impressed with lamberts snoozeathon at villa, or his nothing season at Blackburn. I think most of the unemployed British managers are unemployed for a reason.

Sherwood did really well at spurs, and got villa into an fa cup final. He wouldn't be my first choice as I'd go for silva, rowett, pereira or Gary Neville - but I'd prefer him to Pearson, allerdyce, freedman or ince.

Sherwood didn't do really well at Spurs, they finished 4th in 2012/13 with their highest PL points total ever at the time, they were 7th in the middle of December when he took over, they finished 6th. He lost his first game to get knocked out of the League Cup, he lost in the Third Round of the FA Cup, got through one round of the Europa League and then got knocked out. His reign included getting gubbed 5-1 by City, 4-0 by Chelsea, 4-0 by Liverpool and a tepid 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal when they needed to win. They were underperforming under AVB with a tendency to get thumped when up against decent opposition, flat track bullying their way past bottom half teams, he just carried that on. No-one at all was surprised when Spurs got rid of him.
