Loan Watch 2018-2019

Donovan Wilson scored a nice goal this weekend. Bit of a Bergkamp-esque flick around the defender:

A rare occurence as all five Wolves loanees starting (Wilson, Ruddy, Leak, Stevenson and Hanne) stayed on the pitch for the full game in a 2-2 draw. Wilson popped up with the assist for the other goal and Ruddy Jr saved a penalty.

In other news, Roderick Miranda got his first full game in a long time in a 3-0 while Connor Ronan also got his first action in a while - half an hour in a 4-0 defeat at Bradford. Nothing to show for it for him though unfortunately. Ben Goodliffe and Aaron Hayden played their customary 90 minutes (Stour now top of the league).

Unused subs: Batth, Mir, Johnson, Collins, Yang.

Not in squad: Seedorf, Mason, Bright, Ofosu-Ayeh, Gladon, Zyro, Randall, Simpson.

From the Christmas fixtures:

Danny Batth played a full game in the League Cup quarter-final where League One Burton snatched a 1-o win at the Riverside. He has since been dropped to the bench and remained unused.

Ben Goodliffe put in back to back 90 minute games as Dagenham continued their good form with two wins, both coming back from a goal down.

Connor Ronan came on for the last quarter of an hour in a 3-1 defeat at home to Bristol Rovers.

Aaron Hayden also played two full games in two 3-0 wins, a headed goal in the first and a man of the match display in the second.

Rafa Mir started for Las Palmas but contributed little and was subbed towards the end of a 4-1 defeat at Cordoba. He did chest down the ball to set up their goal, though.

Leak, Stevenson and Wilson started for FC Jumilla although the latter went off injured just before half-time. Hanne came on halfway through the second half but couldn't prevent a 1-0 home defeat.

In other news, Bright has returned to Wolves after a disappointing end to his loan spell at Kilmarnock where he fell out of the first team picture completely.

Unused subs: Batth, Johnson, Collins, Yang.

Not in squd: Mason, Seedorf, Ruddy, Randall.

Goes a long way to answering the Bright question. It's a no.

Was actually on the bench vs Everton on the opening day. That is the closest he will ever get to a Premier League outing.

Ronan and Bright not getting much or any game time is a real surprise to me.

I thought both were at a level where they'd make an impact at their respective teams

There must be something we don't know regarding Ronan. 2 loan deals where he gets great reviews and/or MOTM awards and then sits on the bench for weeks

I can only think it's his stature, he might be better off abroad in a more 'technical' league

Ronan back at Wolves. Not sure where he goes from here. Not getting in our team and 2 pretty poor loan deals, in terms of game time

Jordan Graham officially joined Oxford yesterday until the end of season while Connor Ronan is back at Wolves, according to Spiersy. I expect Sherwin Seedorf is also back seeing as his loan ended yesterday and he's been completely out of the picture for Bradford the last several weeks.

Again, not much to talk about regarding our current loanees from the last pair of fixtures. Ben Goodliffe remains an integral part of Peter Taylor's Dagenham team although their results could have been better: two 1-0 defeats of which Goodliffe played every minute. Aaron Hayden also played back-to-back games for Stourbridge, while Danny Batth sneaked a last minute cameo in one of Boro's two games.

Unused subs: Ronan, Johnson, Collins and Mason (both one game of the two).

The rest are still on their Christmas break.

Bright is due back now too, don't think that one will be extended either (he has been injured).

Oh Gladon is also due back though I don't think anyone would notice if he didn't turn up.

Ronan's deal is due to expire at the end of the season, we probably have an option.

I still find it hard to believe a lower Championship or top end League One team couldn't make use of Bright, based on what we've seen of him last season. There must be something fundamentally wrong there.

Same goes for Ronan.

What exactly in Bright's game are you making use of? He doesn't appear to have any clue to fit into a team and he's got virtually zero end product as an individual, where's the upside?

Ronan I feel more sorry for, he looks a proper footballer but physically he's got it all against him unfortunately, he was perhaps unlucky to miss the boat at Wolves with the relegation to League 1 not quite coinciding with his potential breakout period but I imagine a lot of people would look at him as more of a long term project and if you've only got him on loan why would you invest much time into him rather than just have him as backup? I think he's one that will end up having to drop quite far to get a permanent club after Wolves but if he sticks with it and finds a club who at least attempt to play the right way he could battle his way backup to have the best part of his career at a decent level.

Difficult to place young Ronan, a year in America with Jack Price might work.

It's not like he is a complete no hoper, he has obvious raw ability. He was good enough to play for us in spells last season, can run with the ball and has scored. He's young and needs to learn but that'll only happen playing regularly and in a team.

Doesn't he turn up for training? This isn't Sunday League where they only see each other once or twice a week, there's far more time and scope for players to build relationships on the training ground than there is on a Saturday afternoon.

Bright unquestionably has some technical ability and physical attributes to match but that doesn't always make a good footballer unfortunately. At the moment he's a poor man's Traore tribute act, he's got all the same problems (probably worse) and he's nowhere near as strong individually to be able to excel in the way Traore did under Pulis, so he's going to weaken the team as a whole and not be able to deliver on his to make amends, he's a waste of a shirt.

Agree with Mark there really. Bright has technical ability and he is skilled but he is a very, very raw talent. End product poor and he was always very frustrating to watch.

He's only 20 still so he could still kick on but a failed loan move in the SPL doesn't say much good. His future definitely doesn't lie here.

Players don't develop purely by training every day. They need to play in a team in proper competitive games.
