Let's talk about Nuno....

So basically what we suggested in the last two windows but now it’s Coady replacement rather than back up as we move to 4231.

flog Adama to fund it?
I know it doesn't work this way as there needed to be a market for him, but i really really wish we'd sold him instead of Jota in the Summer

Can someone tell me what our plan is at the moment? What’s our identity? And where are we going?
One year ago it was clear now we just seem to be reactive bunch.
It’s shocking we’ve not scored first in a PL game since late November.
I want Nuno to get out of this confused mess but I’m losing confidence by every shambolic display.
We can look at it that a summer break and a transfer window will resolve the issues but we could regress further. Frankly there’s enough evidence currently to support the latter. The summer transfer window is looking like a bit of a disaster. To many young players bought in on the proviso of being ones for the future but showing no sign of it. A LB who plays 2 games then is out for 10, Semedo is proving to be the Best Buy so far.

I seem to remember most or many wanted to cash in on Traore in the summer. I remember the line used, I think it was Paul on here that we somehow managed to strengthen the squad yet weaken the team. That nailed it for me.
We recruited for 343 and yet now prefer 4231 or 4411. My saddest feeling is watching the decline in 6 months of one of the best players in my lifetime , to wear our shirt Moutinho. He is a shadow of last seasons player.

This is the standard position on TWF now, isn't it? You'd think Adama picked the team the way he shares almost equal culpability with Nuno in some people's eyes. In fact, we're even talking about him now on the Nuno thread!

It's all convenient revisionism; last summer Adama had had an excellent season, played in virtually all our PL games, scored 4 and assisted 9, and Jota was on the bench and the TWF narrative was it's fine to let him go as Neto is better anyway.

It's Nuno who picks and coaches him, and Nuno has to take his share of the blame if he's still playing frustratingly and the players around him don't know how to interact with him. What do they actually do in training? Why are we telling him (and Neto for that matter) to beat his man wide and then cross when it just doesn't suit the players we have and we never get into the positions to make the most of it?

Adama has missed Raul and Doc more than anyone and gets cut no slack for it because a few prominent posters on here didn't like him from the start and never will (see WJ and Otasowie also)

I spent most of lockdown defending Diogo :(

would also say I’m not sure people were ‘fine’ with letting him go tbf

I wouldn't have sold Jota, although he wanted to go so what can you do. I do think Neto is better than him on the left of a three. He can't play up front though whereas Diogo can.

I wouldn't have actively looked to sell Adama, no-one was interested anyway. He has objectively been fucking awful this season.

When Willian Harewood bothers making any movement then I'll cut him some slack. Otasowie is a young kid with loads of ability, I just find it perplexing that he constantly gets touted to start when he's evidently nowhere near the manager's thoughts in that respect. Just won't happen.

It’s not so much Otasowie, it’s just a lot of people are fed up with a same / same slow paced midfield 2. Anyone with a bit of pace, energy and drive to get forward would be an improvement.

I would think that Traore plays the way he does as that's way Nuno tells him to.
When things work out he's the best manager in our lifetime, but when things aren't working it's down to the players

Your TWF narrative is tiresome, people have different opinions and don't operate as a single entity. Selling Adama to fund players for the Summer was introduced on this thread because that's how they work - ebb and flow. I don't want a forum like VillaTalk where there is a thread for every player and the thread police wade in if it's not on there

As for revisionism:

Absolute tosh, when Adama plays well he's a world beater when he doesn't, it's Nunos fault, I'm beginning to think you are Adama trying to see a hint of a Spanish accent in your typing :)

Said 1 poster on the entire forum.

Why are you spoiling for a fight this morning?

Fosun have invested a lot of money in the club and they will not stand by and see it go tits up. If that means a change of manager /coach they will act. You don't make the amount of money they are worth by being sentimental. I just hope that Nuno can turn things around.

Last nights result was on Nuno. Players may not have had the best of games but the buck started and stopped with Nuno's team selection.
It was called out within minutes of it being announced. It looked rank , performed rank and stank the place out. Flaccid, slow, negative and technically inept. It was a shitshow and saints looked a class above.

I think Nuno is in trouble if we haven’t improved by October, I can’t see anything happening before then unless we lose loads in a row and find ourselves in trouble. I’m not happy with how we have played this season but I want to see us with fans back and a normal ish pre season before I start thinking that Nuno isn’t the one to take us further.

We keep saying this. We said it in the last window. The spine of any team is the basis of success and our spine is brittle with Fabio
Moutinho and no real centre back. WJ gets a few more games but ffs let’s start playing to the strengths of the personnel selected. Lumping balls in the air to any of the starting front three was stupidity at best last night. Selecting Neves and Moutinho when that selection has one win in about 20 games this season. It clearly isn’t enough any more. Otasowie gets touted not because he is some world class midfielder but he has shown he brings bite , drive and a desire to attack which bar one absolute worldly against Chelsea , is the exact opposite of Moutinho at the moment. Stick WJ up top with Neto left and Traore right and play MGW behind WJ. Even then they need more support, pace and momentum attacking. Our attacks are slower than over 50s football on the park. And god knows how many times we turn a promising attack into defence. We have turned it into an art form. Really pissed off. I felt we were utterly gutless last night and that’s a serious charge.

It's not that different to you (rightly imo) touting Vitinha to play in CM when Nuno hasn't gone for that much either
