So we get rid of Rui (will get next to nothing for him due to his age and contract situation), Areola costs what, £15m, and we've gained what exactly? Meanwhile £15m has disappeared out of our transfer budget when we need a centre half, a central midfielder, a winger and possibly a #10 and a striker, plus we need to pay for RAN and Vitinha if we want to keep them.

I don't think this sounds like a very good idea.

while I'm not going to defend Rui's performance this season (I agree that he's underwhelmed), it's bonkers that he could be a primary target to replace. a new gk needs to be in the picture at some point regardless simply because of his age, but his upgrade is about the last priority for summer 2021. argument for fullback being the only lower priority, assuming everyone comes back OK from injury and we sign RAN.

Unless Ruddy wants to sit on the bench for one of his last few playing years then can see him going back into the Championship where he will cope well.
