Sorry to go on about it , but Rui has a reputation as an international class goalkeeper, first choice still for Portugal yet looked decidedly ordinary for most of today bar one excellent stop. I thought he was static on crosses and when he did come for them he was flappy and bailed out by Coady. He is one of our top earners and should be doing better and performing better than he has done. Decent competition is necessary please in the summer. He has it too easy .

We won't get decent competition for Rui, not many top sides have decent competition for their keeper. We either sign a replacement and Rui goes, or we sign a back up. Will be the back up option I'd think

I know he does the defensive, pragmatic, counter attack style really well. How much of an evolution is it for Nuno?

Can’t imagine he played counter attack at Valencia but never saw them play. GD of +38 suggests they scored a few.

I don’t know. It did not happen. His stats have him as a bottom 3 keeper. So in most other cases another manager would have tried another keeper. Ruddy is past his best but has rarely let us down and sondergaard is untried. Both would have done no worse than Patricio today. He has underwhelmed for his reputation.

Yeah I loved Patricio the 2 seasons before this, the issue is no matter his name, reputation and what's gone before he's not had a good season at all.

Probably not too many out and out howlers but a lot of goals conceded that he should be doing much better with - you can't afford to have a keeper at this level constantly getting beaten by shots that he should be saving or parrying shots back into the center of the box.

What he was doing today I don't know - a very weak attempt at punching the ball on the cross (he wasn't fouled) then starts walking to the ref while the ball is still in play so has to be cleared off the line. Unbelievable stuff.

You use words like delusional yet fail to acknowledge one of our top earners is failing to hit anywhere near the standard he was bought in to do. I find your defence of his performances a bit strange but that’s why fans see things differently. If Patricio went to Roma tomorrow for 15m I wouldn’t be upset. There are better goalkeepers more suited to our inability to deal with crosses than Rui.

What he earns a week is irrelevant, we don't have a better keeper at the club, in fact we don't have another one that's suitable at all for Premier League football in 2021. So we can't drop him and give someone else a go, can we.

Just for clarity, at a point where nearly everyone agrees we need at least three first team signings ahead of next season, you would sell our existing experienced international goalkeeper at a massive loss then hope we get someone better? We also need a new back up keeper at the same time as the current one is leaving for free. That seems like creating a problem that doesn't exist to me but what do I know.

Why do you put words in my mouth? I haven’t binned him other than the Roma rumour!!!!!! I said Rui has seriously underperformed. I don’t think you can really argue against that with any conviction. In any other premier league team it is likely he would have been dropped, but our lack of options or managers blind faith sees otherwise. Either way Patricio is not in the running for player of the year for a reason. He has not been good enough . I agree there are other priorities, Patricio does need to start really performing. Just an observation

Petr Cech cost Arsenal around £10m when he was 33. Rui is not that level and when they paid that, we hadn't had a pandemic for 18 months that ripped millions out of clubs.

Goalkeepers almost never attract massive fees for whatever reason so what people are essentially asking is for us to give away our only goalkeeper for free then find a replacement with er, magic beans I suppose. It's genuinely crazy.
