England World Cup Squad

Quite disappointed about the lack of Livermore. I was looking forward to the Internet amusing me for the afternoon.

If he's playing three at the back it means Walker will be one of them again, as we have 3 RBs in the squad and only 3 recognised CBs.

-------------- Pickford --------------

---- Maguire -- Stones -- Jones ----

Walker ---- Dier ----- RLC ---- Rose

---- Sterling --- Kane --- Rash/Welbz

I have no problem with Welbz as he always seems to play well for England.

That would be my choice for Tunisia and Panama. SouthGaz will pick two DMs against them though because he's a cock.

Cahill, Young, Jones, Delph and Welbeck are awful picks.

Young, and Jones have had reasonable seasons, I did not realise Welbeck had played as often or as well as he has.
Allways moaned about names over form, yet he seems to have picked the inform players

Jones, Cahill, Maguire, Stones makes 4?

There are no obvious players left at home who could have a strong argument that they should be there. Lallana has been broken this season and Wilshere breaks down every other week.

I think this is how he will line up v Tunisia

Pickford

Walker
Stones
Maguire

Trippier
Dier
Henderson
Rose

Sterling
Kane
Lingard

Walker is going to RCB. Those are exactly the sort of games where it would be best for him, as he can look to double up in an attacking sense with the RWB where needed. I have reservations about him playing there against the best, but we've got to reach that stage for it to become an issue, which I'm not at all confident about.

Young, Welbeck, Cahill, Delph? Their inclusion is a joke. God help us if Danny Rose gets injured. I don't get why he finds Jones and especially Cahill preferable to Smalling.

Not sure on Loftus-Cheek. Hoping we don't overhype and pin our hopes on him as some sort of potential saviour from the bench (à la Andros Townsend) after just two games where he wasn't even very good.

No Livermore thankfully. Not the worst squad the idiot could have picked at least.

Delph has played 29 times for the Champions
Young has played 39 times for runners up.

Only in England would we be wanting them no where near the team.
can you imagine Germany leaving 2 players like that out the team?

We want players picked on performances these have been good enough for Runners up, and Champions so they deserve to be there.

Cahill has been Shit and should be no where near the squad, I would assume he's picked on experience
Welbeck, I was surprised however he has played plenty for Arsenal this season scoring 8 goals in 21 Pl and Uefa Cup starts so can see why he is going as third choice along with Rashford

I hope we do not see Henderson, and Dier together we do not need it.

I've heard people say that's our worst squad in 30 years.

I wouldn't go that far but I hold no hope of Southgate getting the best out of them either way.

Smalling played 44 games for Man Utd.

Delph is at best a fill-in left back (City can get away with it due to the quality of their side, and he'd hardly have kicked a ball if Mendy hadn't got injured) and has barely played a minute in midfield all season. Young again is just not very good, he's an old, bad winger converted into a mediocre full back.

Smalling has yes, and should have gone ahead of Cahill.

Delph and Young have played well in their positions and deserve to be their.

Would expect Trippier, and Rose to play Wing Back
Maguire, Walker, and Stones to play as a back 3.

Probably Maguire on the left, Stones in the middle and Walker right.
Would prefer defensive line up of Trips, with a central midfield of Dier and Loftus-cheek
front 3 of Smalling Kane, and Alli

This is what I think it will be as well, unless Alli starts in CM instead of Dier or wide instead of Lingard.

I don't understand the thinking behind Lallana being on standby. He's either fit enough or he isn't as he walks into it based on ability.

Apart from the odd header/scrambled effort from a corner/set piece I don't know what he's done to get into the squad and get a starting berth as a striker.

Germany haven't picked Ulreich who played 29 games for Bayern as they won the title, nor Caliguri who has played over 30 games for runners up Schalke.

Just because a team achieved doesn't mean every individual has had a good season, there's no way anyone who try to argue that Delph or Young have been a key figure in their respective clubs' seasons surely? Despite Southampton's poor year, Bertrand is clearly a better option at left back than Young or Delph.

Southgates thinking is squad places have to be earned by performances during the regular season.

Unless you're Gary Cahill (deservedly dropped by Chelsea for a long stretch after being appalling all season) or Phil Jones (seven league starts in 2018).

In fact Danny Rose hasn't been first choice for Spurs either.
