England World Cup Squad

Southgates thinking is squad places have to be earned by performances during the regular season.
I understand that, but then you don't put him on standby, as history says at least one of those will end up going. Also based on form over the season there isn't a case to be made for either Cahill or Welbeck.

I never expect England football coaches to be consistent with their thinking.

Unless you're Gary Cahill (deservedly dropped by Chelsea for a long stretch after being appalling all season) or Phil Jones (seven league starts in 2018).

In fact Danny Rose hasn't been first choice for Spurs either.

I thought Bertrand was the surprise omission because of his left foot and adaptability of playing in a back three or four.

Apart from the odd header/scrambled effort from a corner/set piece I don't know what he's done to get into the squad and get a starting berth as a striker.

note to self, never have 3 conversations and type at the same time

I expected Bertrand and would have picked him
Lallana should have gone

But then at least he's picked players on form....
Welbeck will not play
Neither will Cahill who should have been left here

Welbeck will definitely play, might not start but will be one of the first subs.

Not sure what sort of form Cahill has? Other than the shit type.

Pope or Butland in goal please. Pickfords got Scott Carson international syndrome at the moment.

-------------- Pickford --------------

---- Maguire -- Stones -- Jones ----

Walker ---- Dier ----- RLC ---- Rose

---- Sterling --- Kane --- Rash/Welbz

I have no problem with Welbz as he always seems to play well for England.

That would be my choice for Tunisia and Panama. SouthGaz will pick two DMs against them though because he's a cock.
Decent team tbf, Jones has been very good this season so dont see a problem with him..Livermore should be nowhere near though..GK, best in form keeper of those has to be Pope

Personally I'm not keen on Smalling, but I'm amazed he's left Bertrand out.

Delph has played 29 times for the Champions
Young has played 39 times for runners up.

Only in England would we be wanting them no where near the team.
can you imagine Germany leaving 2 players like that out the team?

We want players picked on performances these have been good enough for Runners up, and Champions so they deserve to be there.

Cahill has been $#@! and should be no where near the squad, I would assume he's picked on experience
Welbeck, I was surprised however he has played plenty for Arsenal this season scoring 8 goals in 21 Pl and Uefa Cup starts so can see why he is going as third choice along with Rashford

How can you say we should pick players based on performances and then have your only argument be how many times they have played? Only reason they have both been playing is due to injury or the manager hating the other options. If you have seen Ashley Young play then you would know 'choosing Young based on performance' is pretty much an oxymoron.

I'm honestly horrified at our left-back options if Rose gets injured. Bertrand hasn't had his best year by a mile but should be in ahead of these two jokers.

"Nerves aren't going to affect Joe Hart"

Sorry, I must have imagined him bawling away in the tunnel at Euro 2016, working himself up stupidly and then letting in pissweak goals against Wales and Iceland. You fucking moron.

Looking at some of the squad selections like Delph, Young, Welbeck and Jones it reminds me of a 1990's England one day cricket selection. Can do a passable job in a number of areas, a good one nowhere.

I was listening to that this morning, he kept banging on about Hart like he is his lover.

On the same show he was on about how Di Matteo tried to play football to get out of the Championship with Brazil muttering 'can't do it, can't do it'.

Err, yes you can and we just did you oaf!

Di Matteo failed because he basically had no tactics. His Villa team were totally shapeless and spineless. He's never played particularly expansive football, Schalke fans actually thought he was too defensive, what he did often do at Villa was if they weren't winning, throw on as many forwards as he could towards the end of the game to no avail. I wonder which other manager does that? Starts with "S", ends with "Teve Bruce".

Joe Hart isnt quick nowadays is he? Letting in goals from all angles, like an average keeper..pep was right going for an upgrade..Bravo was not best choice though, "good with his feet" was maybe putting too much pressure..really, really impressed by Ederson, top keeper with de Gea, Oblak and maybe a few more..

Dean Saunders is the most BS talking manager i have seen in this world..end of

Saunders to is just another Talkshite bullshit artist like Parlour or Quinn. Born with an ability to play football better than anyone on here, understands football less than most.
