Bournemouth 1-1 Wolves (Bournemouth win 5-4 on pens) : Verdict Thread

Put him in the current Liverpool team on the left and I’d be confident he’d score and create more than Diaz. If he’s playing and scoring he’ll be fine. No doubt the occasional wobble but not enough to put a big team off.
Would he offer the prerequisite defensive pressing etc though?

Oh I agree, it's not putting anyone off, but a bit like Neto, I think Wolves have built a style of play around him, something someone else won't. I didn't feel that way about Jota and wouldn't have about Neves if he'd not gone to a pub league, but with Neto and Cunha I think they need the right environment and a certain style. He'll do OK, no better imo

I think with Neto it’s much clearer than with Cunha. Cunha has a much more rounded game and I think he’d be more successful than both Jota and Neto, though injuries have impacted to some extent with Jota. I think in a pond with other big fish Cunha would adapt well and won’t get anywhere near as frustrated.

Yeah Diaz runs around like a madman and they indulge Salah. Cunha wouldn’t be the one being indulged

I mean I'm not above an emotional over reaction but I've read some absolute fucking bobbins tonight.

"Footballer reacts to something and nothing, and stupidly gets sent off" is a tale as old as time, people are talking like he's done a Cantona FFS.

It was stupid, brain-dead even, but it's the kind of bullshit handbags you see game in game out. He went too far and fucked it all up, as many have done before and will do since.

I've seen so many people on the socials basically saying we'll be better off without him, he's done it get time off, blahbleeblah just get tae fuck with all that bollocks.

Like 95% of footballers he's a bit of a cunt, he's arrogant, he's emotional, he's not great off the ball and he's stroppy.

And without him we're absolutely fucked next season. It's impossible to confidently replace what he's given is this season from the market we'll be shopping in and the quality of our football operations

It’s nothing really to do with what he did - who gives a fuck, it’s done.

It’s more about the position he’s left us in.

We’re well and truly fucked without this guy.

I'm not sure what point you're making here?

If you really think that what he did 'happens game in game out' then I'm not sure you actually saw the incident. He spend fucking ages dicking around with Kerkez as they goaded each other and then not only fell into the wind-up trap that these Bournemouth cunts live for, but then proceeded to Lemina-lite around the pitch, being held back by his own team and staff like a pissed up teen for what seemed like aeons.

It was fucking mortifying, and if you have multiple examples of similar happening around other PL clubs this season I'd love to see them.

He's a fucking man-baby, he's out of here as soon as we hit June anyway, and good riddance. For all his talent, he held the club over a barrel with his '''''new contract''''' and now pulls this scarcely-believable shit in a pretty low stakes game and potentially fucks our season. Have some professionalism FFS

My point was people are overreacting, but thanks for not helping.

Mortifying 🙈 fucking hell it was a scuffle and he was prick about getting off the pitch. He got wound up, reacted and got sent off. It's hardly going to be in the next episode of Ripley's Believe It Or Not. I've read descriptions that make it sound like he's caved the shit out of him, yet despite a 'kick' a 'punch' and a 'head butt' there was barely the cumulative contact to crack into a Terry's Chocolate Orange. I'm not defending him, it was churlish and petulant, and he's clearly a bit of a cunt on the football pitch. But all the fucking handwringing as if he's a Brazilian Joey Barton FFS, it's just daft. And before any soft fucker starts no I'm not condoning violence.

I can't be arsed to go looking for examples only for you to give me a freeze frame analysis of why they're completely different. Players get wound up and react. We see it all the time. No I haven't got stats.

Just take a step back. Good riddance? To one of our best ever players?

Del I think you’re forgetting when he pulled a Kimber out of his jockstrap

I know what Del means. It was prickish behaviour, and for the second time now this season. I missed it live as my stream went down, and I expected to see some Zidane style headbutt but it was nothing really. As was the wrestling beforehand.

I've seen other fans calling him a thug, and saying the league should make an example of him, but that all stems from jealousy ultimately and wanting to see us without our best player.

The reactions from Wolves fans have also been a little OTT, but from our side it's again because he's our best player and we really need him. Plus the fact we know he'll leave in the summer. More intense frustration than genuine anger I feel.

It was dissapointing to lose especially as we were ahead on penalties. Cunha has let badly let us down for the second time this season. The more worrying thing for me was our overall performance.

We really didn't deserve to take the game to extra time let alone penalties. We had very little if any control over the game. I thought that the first half showed how much we were missing Andre as we couldn't string two passes together. Things didn't improve when he came on. We seemed to only want to lump it forward, take a couple of breaths and get back into a defensvie shape because the ball came straight back nearly every single time. We couldn't handle Bournemouth's agressive tactics.

Defensively, we were pretty solid most of the time, but Toti made two goal line clearances and Johnstone made a couple of reaction saves. Bournemouth's final ball and shooting was as bad as ours.

Most top half teams would easily put 3 or 4 past us if we played like that against them. Vitor Pereira and his caoching team have their work cut out trying to avoid relegation.

As for Cunha, I don't see him going to a top team like Liverpool or City. Neither would put up with his antics and the time he goes missing in play rolling about and claiming fouls. I guess he would fit in well at places like Arsenal.

A perfect fit for Tottenham in my book.

Mate, I think the biggest overreaction on this subject here is from you TBH.

No-one on here is amping up the violence; it was comedy football fighting, but it was still an embarrassing spectacle, and 'best ever player' or not, he'll be someone else's player in under four months (a situation he's totally engineered to his benefit btw), and I'll be moving on very quickly

It’s the position we’re left in that’s the issue. It’s a pathetic football ‘scuffle’, however we’re in the midst of a relegation battle, he’s just been given a very hefty pay rise, he missed 2 games earlier in season for making a spectacle (see what I did there) of himself and he’s quite clearly our talisman.

Was it thuggish? Absolutely not. I did expect to see worse after hearing soccer Saturday describe it as a full house. Petulant and quite embarrassing.

He isn’t the first player to do something stupid, and he won’t be the last, but if we were 13th, not in a relegation battle the reaction wouldn’t be as bad.

He’s off in the summer, and il be sad to see him go. Lads a baller. Just frustrates me with how much power the players have,l.

The worst thing about it all is he wasn’t even goaded or wound up. He didn’t fall into a trap. It was all his doing.

He was delaying the restart messing with the ball. Kerkez tries to push him away from the ball and that’s when he takes his first swings, then a faux kick, then when he gets up a novelty headbutt.

All ridiculous “football fighting” agreed. When has anyone ever lamped anyone or done a full nut anyway? Even Zidanes was a shove with his head into the chest, wouldn’t have actually caused any pain or damage.

Also happy for him to fuck off for your reasons stated. It’s not that us wanting him to stay is going to change anything anyway…

My favourite is where you put air quotes on 'beat ever player' (as well as misquoting me) as if it's hyperbolic.

Of course he's engineered a transfer, he wants to play champions league, not relegation fights. A player wanting to move to a bigger club isn't unusual. Tbh a lot of the fan commentary since he got sent off has just reaked of sulky teenager telling his mates that he was never really that into the girl that's just dumped him.

Don't think we'll agree on this, which is fine.

You just seem more cheesed off with fans annoyed at the player who let us down than with the player himself
