Bournemouth 0-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Pretty similar to my taste in music, I appreciate that my football views are probably very much stuck in the 90’s. I don’t think a tackle like that should be a red card, a yellow is sufficient.

Under the laws of the modern game, a red card was technically the correct decision but, as others have said, awarding a yellow wasn’t enough of a howler to get VAR re-reffing the decision.

I’d have been pretty pissed off if one of our players had been sent off under the same circumstances.

Having said that, it was Bournemouth so fuck ‘em. They don’t deserve any sympathy.

It's interesting that everyone is fixated with the front leg. What makes the tackle highly dangerous is the other leg following in "scissor like" from behind Ran.

In today’s game it’s a red card, those saying it’s a terrible decision are viewing from a 90’s viewpoint.
Listening on talkSPORT whilst driving home yesterday they made out it was a scandalous decision and ruined the game.
Probably a good idea not to listen to UK Reform’s sports department even if you have the slightest left wing tendencies.

The sole of the guys boot is planted firmly on RANs shin, while his other foot is off the ground. In the centre of the pitch. While his team mates have been playing filthy bastards all half. It’s not a shock he gets a red card

You’ll have to remind me of this incident?
Fulham 2nd penalty last year by Gomes. Could be seen as a penalty, certainly not a shocker yet he got the ref to look at it. It's not what VAR was sold to us for.

VAR grey area is do you want for the clear errors or the right decision? This is where a lot of inconsistency develops.
Everton’s penalty yesterday was soft but probably not enough to deem it an obvious error.
Yesterday red card is probably a red card but it’s not an obvious error to give a yellow card.
Deep down I think both outcomes were correct but the game has been re-reffed

Right. I was thinking of a tackle that got upgraded to a red and couldn’t.

I thought Bournemouth were playing on the edge in terms of physicality personally anyway, so not surprising when they went over the line
The red was just horrific timing and technique more than malicious IMO. They do still ride the line under Iraola but I can’t really get mad at it.

All opinion I guess, for me that's re refereeing the game something they said they don't want to do. The ref had a clear view, gave a yellow, it's not a shocker, get on with the game. When Attwell has done similar to us, ironically with the same ref, people were less understanding
Is it not? The moment I saw a replay it was obvious it should have been a straight red to begin with IMO.

You cannot stud someone half way up their leg. Clear red.

Was amazed Lineker, Shearer & Murphy all thought it was harsh (but I shouldn’t be).
Thankfully the days of being able to invade Poland as long as you get a touch on the ball are long gone too.

I’m normally pretty lenient but even in my book that’s a red.

But agree it’s not a shocker, so don’t really know whether VAR should be getting involved or not.

The referee was in a good position, he saw the tackle in the context of the match deemed it worthy of a foul and a yellow card. There is a genuine debate to be had as to whether it was worthy of a red card and that, for me, makes it not clear and obvious. VAR is slowly creeping away from what is clear and obvious after the threshold was supposedly raised for this season…but this also means it is inconsistent. It should have been left alone by VAR once the foul and yellow were given.

No. Not every incorrect decision is a shocker.
I do agree with the sentiment but can’t in this case. He’s planted the arch of his foot (his right foot, well off the ground) smack in the middle of Rayan’s calf.

Personally, that is exactly what VAR is here for. For it not to be a straight red would have been far more questionable, IMV.

I've no problem with VAR asking a ref to take another look. What I do have a problem with is the idea that if that happens the referee has automatically made the wrong decision. That's what all this "high bar" and "clear and obvious" language leads to and it shouldn't happen.

The ref should be free to make up his own mind at the monitor and VAR shouldn't get involved in any opinion once they've told the ref that he might want to take another look to be sure.
