Wolves 3 v PNE 2 - a mental game verdict thread

Christ, where have the anti-Bright sentiments come from? He wasn't that bad yesterday, none of the front three late on were. We stopped playing with our usual style and that hurts all of our forwards. To blame them for it (I've seen the concerns about Helder, too) is just not right, IMO.

Would not call them a bogey side.

3 wins in the last 10. Hardly a gimme 3 points. Not trying to be pedantic but they have been pretty shit during that period too. But there. I will be happy for three points even though recent history put's us less than even. Norwich 1 win in 9. Real bogey side. Beat us 5 2 in our championship winning year and took a point at molineux same season. And they were relegated that year further stimulating my bottom three complex. 4 wins against QPR and Norwich in 17 games since 2008. I think I am right to be cautious. Shoot me down when we have 6 points.

Just because he consistently makes poor choices, and sharing a dressing room pic with Helder s's little fella on display is another poor choice!

There's no doubt there is some talent there but unless he grows up quickly and starts to play for the team he'll drop down the leagues. Especially if he's damaged his relationship with the senior players given this latest social media faux pas.

Compare him to Vinagre (a year or so younger) and, imo, it's clear who seems more mature and a better player.

I like Bright a lot but christ he needs to learn when to play the ball. So many times he hangs on for 5 seconds too long and puts us in trouble. He's got all the talent in the world and can be whatever he wants to, just hope Nuno can sort him out. If we go up this season though we'll strengthen even further and he could well be surplus to requirements.

Costa will be fine. He took a knock just after coming on and is effectively having his pre-season. 90 mins on Tuesday for him please. Amazing to think that even when he's fully fit he'll struggle to make the starting XI.

A fully fit and firing Costa is some way better than Cav IMO (and that's not to slate the latter, I just think Helder is on another level altogether)

How about you look at the teams in isolation rather than as a pair as that isn't statistically significant. We should also really look at just the games in question. QPR away yields 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss over the last 5.

Of course the form is totally meaningless as both teams have different players to that of last season let alone 8 years ago when we last lost at QPR.

So yeah, you're talking shit.

Football's not witchcraft though and past results (especially going back years) don't really mean much, not when you've had the kind of player turnover that we've had. I put them up in the build-up threads out of interest and because they're a talking point when people remember the old games but it's ultimately irrelevant that Norwich beat us nine years ago.

Last season at home to QPR we played the following team:

Ikeme; Coady, Batth, Stearman, Doherty; Edwards, Price; Costa, Enobakhare, Cavaleiro; Dicko

Three of them have gone, Ikeme may never play again (and would be third choice keeper here now anyway), Price and Bright won't start on Saturday. The manager has changed.

You can't go through supporting a team believing in jinxes and the like :icon_lol: We lost to QPR last season because of a couple of pieces of comedy defending, the kind we haven't tended to indulge in this season (amazingly this also coincides with Stearman not being in the team). Not because they'd also won the last two here and we have a hopeless mental block against teams from West London who play in blue and white hoops as a result, even if all the playing personnel have changed. And anyway, as I say you can turn it around and say our record against them over the last 20 years is very much in our favour, and that we've had one solitary loss at Loftus Road (where this game is being played) in that time.

However I will accept answers on a postcard as to why we've found it all but impossible to beat Huddersfield since the 1990s. Now that's a bogey side, should you wish to believe in such things.

Boro away is a definite jinx. I always assume it's because it's my closest game and the football gods want me to suffer at a game 30 mins from my house.

Huddersfield isn't a jinx, though we did once get our car radio knicked after losing to them. Twats.

Bright is a fantastic footballer from the neck down. It's what's between his ears that let's him down. I still maintain that a loan spell would do him the world of good, playing week in week out for 90 mins and learning to make better decisions. Kind of like Walcott had to do in his early years at Arsenal.

Nuno isn't going to WHU or Everton in a million years!! Their owners are both absolutely skint compared to us and we have a couple of better players with more potential than them already IMO. Not to mention who we could get with the Money/Mendes combo once PL status is achieved.

I agree with you here Alan. He came on at a bad time yesterday and he really wasn't as bad as some have made out. He held on to the ball a couple of times but i thought that was the right thing to do because we were seriously under pressure and had to keep the ball. It was the others that were rushing and giving it back to Preston.

As for the photo he was obviously videoing Saiss and Helder happened to be in the background and i doubt Bright even noticed that he had his cock out. Poor form if he's punished for that and i hope Helder saw the funny side. I also think he's a quality young footballer who is very inexperienced and he sometimes shows that, we as fans have to be patient imo rather than get on his back. Pretty sure some fans would get on his back for taking too many touches in the warm up with how quick they are to criticise him.

His only real bad moment came as we broke 3 on 3 and he had Costa one side and Alfred the other and the moment all 3 Preston defenders moved towards him he should have passed but for some reason he decided to run head down into them all and lost the ball. It does seem that some are so eager to jump on his back, they are moaning before he has even had a chance to make a decision. Very odd as our fans have been ace this season and we generally give our kids a while before deciding they are shit. Bright seems to have had folk against him in most games this season.

BTW what do we think Brights punishment will be for his post match photography? I wouldn't be surprised to see him loaned out at Xmas.
I’m sure they’ll be having words about #cockgate. Wouldn’t be happy if someone at my place of work posted a similar photo. To be fair though if I was naked at work I’d expect to be dragged up to HR myself.

Slightly different if your place of work is a football dressing room after a game. Don't for one second think it is anything other than stupidity but given that we all look at a photo before we post it on social media it is stupidity on a significant scale

that we all look at a photo before we post it on social media it is stupidity on a significant scale

Having seen a lot of shit on Facebook & Twitter, I don't think that is true

vinagre is even younger and less experienced but for a football brain he's on another planet to bright

Apparently Bright posted it as a video on Snapchat, Costa's tackle appeared for a split second, somebody screenshotted it and posted it on Twitter

Everybody matures at a different rate. I think people are being a little harsh on Bright. I think Nuno got it wrong bringing him on as it really should be Marshall who has the expereince and can play as one of the front 3.

Bright's worth persevering with until he comes good and I don't think he's the sort of character we should be sending on loan especially as he maybe an immature 19 year old lad. And I think we all forget he's 19 and think he should be acting way more mature than he actually is. He's still just a kid and a kid with wonderful talent who will take a few years to put it all together.

Yeah but you can hardly compare how the 2 have got to where they are. Vinagre no doubt has some brain but he's been coached by top quality coaches since he was how old. Bright unfortunately hasn't had that and you can see that in his game but it doesn't and shouldn't detract from the fact that he's a gifted footballer with great technique who could be very good with Nuno and our coaching staff now helping him. He's probably had very little coaching when he as young if any and the coaching he got here has been shown to be well not great put it that way.

If he was "shit" Nuno wouldn't have him near the 1st team or started him ahead of Ivan at the beginning of the season when his suspension ended. He would have followed, Dicko, Edwards, Bod etc out of the door.

I hope behind the scenes Nuno is putting more effort into getting Costa back up to scratch rather than Bright. Everyone and everything in the team is improving. Marshall is getting stick for being a fat git and steps behind the team. Bright is getting stick for being slow in the yed. Both fair to say
