Wolves 3-0 Liverpool: Verdict Thread

I'd really like to him to sign a new contract but would accept a gentlemans agreement that if a bigger club came in with serious wedge we wouldn't say no.

I'd hate to see someone get him relatively cheaply.

Honestly think that's the only way he gets a big move. He was likely available last year for 45/50m and no one pulled the trigger.

I think if he begins playing further forward with Lemina in the covering role and starts getting more goals/assists then he'll definitely earn his big money move. He's done a very unsung hero's job for the team up to yet.

I am fairly excited to see how Gomes progresses, however. Other midfielders we've been linked with/bid for (Enzo Fernandez, Maximo Perrone, Palhinha) have gone on to earn moves to 'big clubs' or certainly be highly thought of in their clubs (in Palhinha's case) so our scouting team aren't doing a bad job identifying players.

I almost wonder, actually, if Neves is more likely to sign for a Newcastle-esque club (hopefully abroad) that is on the cusp of European/Champions League football. Of course, no reason that can't be Wolves (the former more so than the latter) in a year or two.

I'd quite happily say to Ruben "we've fucked up and wasted a couple of years of your career, and you've continued to be exceptional. If you don't want to stay in Summer 2024, you will go with the blessings of a hundred thousand people who will probably will you to win wherever you go. But if we earn your trust back, we'll give you a ten year contract at £200k per week, and if at any point somebody pays £50m and you want to go, we'll let you".

He's Ruben Neves. He's worth that, and he wouldn't ease off one iota. He's the fucking heartbeat of this football club, and he's worth far to us than he would be for anybody else in the world. He's more than just a footballer. He's Wolves. Fuck, give me the choice between losing every other player and having to start again in league one, or sell him to a Newcastle or whatever, I'd keep him 100 times out of 100. He's Ruben fucking Neves.

Frankly, £50m is a piss-take given today's transfer fees. Anyone buying him will be getting him at his peak.

He's worth a good £80m as he's still young enough to sign a long term contract.

I do get emotional after wine and cheese but I said I what I said and I'll die on that hill. I love him so much

I’d be a bit “meh” if the rest of them left, but if Ruben leaves I’ll need a few days to myself to come to terms.

The rest of the Premier league doesn't seem to rate Neves anywhere near how we do. If we do carry on improving and finish comfortably mid table, I'm not sure he'll want to go unless it's to a top team, by which I mean Liverpool, Arsenal, City, Man U or one of the big European teams.
Not sure they want him. Maybe JL can convince him we're on our way up.

Was talking to a Newcastle fan the other week, he said neves is just a long ball hoof it forward player, and he wouldn’t want him at Newcastle, not good enough.

Yes, how could he possibly displace Sean Longstaff or Joe Willock, superstars perennially linked with all the European giants.

Mysteriously neither anywhere near the England squad.

RAWK were all stating they wouldn't want him anywhere near their team as well. It's OK, neither would we, he's better than that.

The same RAWK who were saying city had over paid for Haaland

The logic doesn't hold, but because Neves has been with us for 6 seasons to the average Sky 6 fan he must therefore be shit. I think there's an element of that in the recruitment of the teams themselves as well, hence they'd rather throw stupid bids at players who have just broken through like Caicedo, Cucarella or Gordon thinking they are ahead of the curve

Of the many unappetising prospects if Neves joins one of the Sky 6 hearing pundit after pundit marvelling at how his play has “just gone up another level since working with…” as they actually watch him for more than just the MOTD highlights is one of the worst.

Don't, that thought is sickening.
