What are you currently listening to....

Nick Mulvey - First Mind. Great stuff, a little Ian Brown-esque in places and a great listen.
He's getting a fair few props at the mo. I think I might need to investigate.

On topic, Layo & Bushwacka - Night Works.

Walking In Pittsburgh- Tim Ruff.

Yes, I like cheese !

Thanks to Kev for sharing, now I cant stop singing the bugger !!

Such a good album. I love "Can't Find My Way Home".
Had to Cry today is a cracking opener though.

Did I just agree with a Lemonjelly music choice ??

Not my fault generally your taste is godawful :icon_wink:
I do have some very wide ranging tastes to be fair. I have too many cd's (as the recent mogwai willy waving contest shows...)

American Idiot by Green Day was this morning's album of choice. My favourite Green Day album. I do like Green Day but I'm not absolutely crazy about them as so many other folk are - I prefer this to their earlier work as I think it flows better.

Cycled to work listening to Isles of Wonder, the music from the olympics opening ceremony.

And I Will Kiss was for the bit where I needed to get the legs going.
Calibans dream for the bit that was nice and gentle on the final approach.

Currently listening to Jack White's new album. Never been a huge fan of his solo work (or the White Stripes for that matter) but The Racontuers stuff is awesome. Anyway, really like his new album. Short, rocking, to the point. He fuses genres effortlessly and organically and adds his own unique flavour to it all. Some of the sounds he gets out of his guitar are nasty (in a good way)! not quite up there with Consolers of the Lonely, but worth a few spins. 7.5/10

On a side note, I have been underwhelmed by Royal Blood tbh. I don't quite get the point of making your bass sound like a shit guitar and then running a clean bass track underneath! As a live spectacle I'm sure it works, and there's not denying the sound on the album is big, but it could be so much better. The whole album is the same tempo and lacks any real dynamic texture. There aren't any twists or turns and a lot of the riffery is formulaic and hampered by their self-imposed instrumental limitation. Victims of the hype. 6/10

Yep, I quite agree, I like you :)
Can't blame you for that one.
Let's try another that may cause you to spill tea. Last night I relaxed to the sounds of the 13th floor elevators.
Followed by a bit of the Blues Project (anthology).

I have constantly gone on and on about these two tracks, telling people to give it a listen - nice to see someone else appreciates it! The latter is absolutely beautiful.

It's a pretty good soundtrack but these two are by far the standout tracks IMO.

You're absolutely correct Langers.
Of course I'm a bit biased, as they're the 2 new tracks that when the album came out I was desperate to hear.
The 2nd cd (which is the music from the athletes parade) is absolutely awesome too - love listening to that when driving.
To be honest, I prefer And I Will Kiss out of the 2, as it is the most standout. It's a lush long tune, has some loud booming bits, as well as the quiet reflective bits (when I first watched the ceremony, the bit with the whistling & remembering those who fell in the wars brought tears to my eyes). The euphoria of the section where the strings rise & take over (where the rings were being carried to the middle of the stadium) still makes the hairs on my back stand on end.
Caliban is a different (still top quality) tune, & a fitting last track. It actually comes from their Frankenstein soundtrack they did.
Only a couple of weeks now to this:

I got the 2012 Olympics on Blu-ray mainly because they had the opening ceremony on it. One of the greatest theatrical productions I've ever seen, and I'll never forget watching it - I was spellbound. The subsequent games weren't bad either!!

As is often the case with me, the music is one of the main things that stand out. When I bought the soundtrack I put some headphones on and turned it up. It's great.

I am currently listening to Caress of Steel by Rush. 39 years since it was released and it is as good as ever.
