The Things You Are HAPPY About Thread.

I guess it's both happy and sad...
This afternoon I will be setting up the trophies for the end of season pool league presentation night, the 2019/20 Winter League!
It will be my last act as President, Secretary, Chairman, Treasurer and all round one-man band as I am standing down and handing over to a 5 man committee of people I trust to keep things going. I'd taken the league from 5 teams to 3 Divisions of 8 teams and couldn't just walk away without it being in safe hands as I put a lot of time and effort into it.

I'll miss it, I guess, but my involvement with Air Cadets is taking a leading role in my life and I can't do both justice so Cadets win out.

Anyway, I woke up to this message from a player from a 3rd Division team...

"I just wanted to say a massive thank you for everything you've done for the pool league and I'm sure I speak for many other players, it's been more than just a few games of pool, we've built friendships, had fall outs & many laughs. This league completely changed a lot of things for me and I don't think I'd have stuck around if we didn't have you in charge, you were always fair with us and treat us equally. Before I got talked into playing my first season I'd been struggling a lot with mental health issues and many other things. This league allowed me to get out again, built my confidence back up and has been a massive part of my life, most of all... it gave me time with my Dad that I wouldn't have otherwise had and I'll treasure that forever. It got my dad back out after years away from league games. So I just wanted to say thanks for making it what it is & maybe without realising you've brought joy to so many people & I'm very grateful for all you've done. Been thinking about it a lot over the last few days and just wanted to give you a quick message to wish you luck on your new adventures and I wish you all the best Mike."

Bastard! I'm feeling a little emotional tbh!

The 'new' (bet they've been open for years) services at Rugby. Loads of charging points for the motor in an emergency, a great play area for the kids and a generally more pleasant option then Corley for my match day trip.
About a mile from me, and only opened this year.

It's great to see there are still people like you around, who are prepared to give up their time and effort to help run grass roots sport and community groups just because you want to.

Thanks mate. I've enjoyed running the pool league but felt I would do a lot more "good" helping develop youths from 12 to 20, teaching them some discipline, giving them opportunities that they wouldn't normally get, watching them make friends and grow as a person.

Well done Mike & good to get some positive feedback.

Helped run a Youth Theatre Group (11 - 18 yr olds) for 15 years (having been 'volunteered' by my eldest son!) - in the end we had to threaten complete closure of a Charity that had been operating for 35 years to get people to step forward to take over as basically 3 people had been doing it for many years.

I love my family, my friends, it’s half term, and I love the Wolves. My life is great atm and I’m very happy about it

Someone needs to tell his wife she’s not - love Only Connect but her opening attempt at humour is consistently cringeworthy.
She's been crap on Taskmaster too. Comes across as a bit daft.
