The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2017/18

Difficult one really. He's done an excellent job in the short term but some caretakers do that, Trevor Brooking is statistically West Ham's best ever manager. He's very new to coaching and the issue for Albion is that if you go straight back up, relegation needn't be a disaster. Get stuck for longer than a couple of years and it seriously wrecks you as a club. They absolutely need to be targeting the top two next season, I don't think anyone could say with anything other than blind faith that Darren Moore is going to deliver that.

You are probably right. Though it is clear that in his short time in charge he has got the Albion players playing for him and the club. Moore is Albion through and through I would be surprised if he was not at least part of their future plans.

Whatever happens, Albion have gone for a team in disarray to one that should have a decent chance of coming straight back up.

I'd love it if he went back there. I think he'd get them straight back up.

Agreed. I'd like to think we'd help him out too, send him the Duck for a start for a lowish fee with add-ons due on promotion, he'd love him.

I've heard whispers that the new owners want Wilder but that seems as wildly optimistic as when Wilder himself bid for Conor Coady after he'd started the season for us as first choice and captain.

Wilder has worked with the new owner before when he was involved at Oxford

Big Blade though, innit. Hard to see him leaving there. He'll want to push on with them next season (sign a couple of decent strikers, a proper keeper and replace the chestbeater at the back and they'd be very much in the picture for top six).

I thought bSunderland would have a poor season and could drop to league one but to be as dire as they have been. They are 17 points off what we got the year we dropped under Saunders. Its a disgrace for Sunderland fans. They have some serious lolly invested in players contracts too. Blackburn and Wigan have done well to get out of League one and there is no reason to think that Sunderland cannot do similar . However they do need a real overhaul much as KJ did in our league one season , banishing some shit to the reserves or even binning them off and getting half a dozen in who could and would do a job for them on no money , a la Rickets. Its a tall order but can be done and MM would be a great appointment to get them back up. It could be a great end to his distinguished career.

He's 59, years left in him yet.

I dont think he wants to go on and on and he has his limits. His style is no longer attrcative to any premier league team. He can will and could do a job with Sunderland to get them back up and maybe back towards the top end of the championship but more than that is not where I see him going. It would also be a shame to see him coaching league two cloggers as well.

I can’t see him leaving football in his early sixties, it’s in his blood. He’ll always be a good Championship manager and when you look at what the likes of Colin has done in his later years there’ll always be a place for Mick at some club at that level. Given the right ingredients he could bring success again for someone in the second tier although admittedly he can’t cut it in the Prem. While the demand is still there I wouldn’t expect him to be packing in any time in the near future.

Wrexham, like half of the teams in the national league, are desperate to regain their place in the Football League. It is a tough job, and I wish Sam Ricketts well.

Didn't a certain manager leave Wrexham for Wolverhampton? His name just escapes me at the moment...

I know one that left Wrexham for Doncaster then left them to fuck us up

Got them promoted, you know. In January.

Looks like Gerrard will be revealed as the new Rangers manager today (unless he does a last minute change of mind again).

Fair play to him for taking the chance. Tough job though and he will be hoping the current lot manage to hold onto 3rd spot and give him a few games in Europe. They were well clear a few weeks ago and now only GD has them above Hibs.
