The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2014/15

He's the only other name that crossed my mind, but he's on a bit of a retrieval mission after this season. He'd be a brave choice.

Real never learn, do they? The fans and the pro-Real media are an absolute joke at times. I can't see any way back for Bale now after the way Marca took him to pieces today. He looks absolutely shot.

Bale should just tell them where to shove it and come back to England, no reason he should have to take all the shit that's thrown at him.

No chance, he can't be bothered with all the nonsense that job entails, he doesn't get on with the board and the media hate him.

Apparently Bale's car (or one of them, anyway) has been vandalised, Solbakken style.

Joe Zinnbauer sacked by HSV. I think they're finally done for this season unfortunately.

St Pauli rock bottom of 2.Liga as well :(

Can you shed any light on what's actually gone wrong in Hamburg, Dan?

City are bound to come calling in the summer

Nailed on I would think. I already thought Ancelotti would be a good shout for them to replace Pellegrini before this news was revealed

Got to be one of the least stable clubs in the world. I moved there 13 and a half years ago and they have had 13 permanent managers in that time. Zinnbauer, Van Marwijk, Slomka, Veh and Oenning all lasted about six months. It means you end up with a squad containing players that the new coach doesn't fancy much, they're hard to shift because they're on big money...it's all a bit rotten really. At this stage I think relegation and a wholesale clearout might be the best thing in the long run. This can't go on.

What started that cycle?

Me moving there :)

Seriously I would say Jol leaving in 2009 after he got them in the Europa League. They have never replaced him properly with the possible exception of Fink who I'd have granted more time to.

They seem a little bit like Sunderland. Constantly changing managers, with the squad getting worse each time they do so

Some of the players are real gutless shitehawks. Djourou and Van der Vaart in particular.

I love Rafa, but I can't imagine him being the best player to have in your squad when the going gets tough... Meeting him was unbelievable, nice chap too!

Loved him as a footballer five years ago but he has been dreadful since going back to HSV. Rarely ever lasts more than 60 minutes, so many completely anonymous displays.

His fitness at Spurs was pretty poor too, having Redknapp as his manager won't have helped him in that respect.

The thing is they sacked Slomka early on this season (probably about right, he wasn't very good at all and they stayed up more or less by default last year) and since they have appointed:

- Zinnbauer - entire management history of 10 games with HSV II in the Regionalliga Nord. To be fair he had won all of them but it would be rather like us having sacked Jackett in September and appointing Rob Edwards.

- Knäbel - sporting director, hasn't managed anyone since 2000 and that was in the Swiss third tier.

That does not suggest clear thinking to me.

Diego Simeone has just signed a new contract to stay with Atletico Madrid until 2020.

Diego Simeone; "I turned down some offers abroad to sign a new contract here, because Atlético Madrid and I are one. It's La Cosa Nostra"
