The owner of Chinese Super League (CSL) side Tianjin Quanjian has scrapped plans to sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa, according Chinese media reports.

So it looks like he will have to eat humble pie.

Xabi Alonso retiring at the end of the season.

Phenomenal player. One of the best of this generation.

Made me fall in love with the game, did Xabier.

And sadly that level of abuse at match officials is not an isolated case. Though I am against this proposed strike by grassroots referees. It may cause difficulties for individual leagues, but it will not mean the situation will be any better in the future. The answer lies with the football authorities, they must come down very hard on club officials and players who behave in such a manner.

Steve Bruce pretty scathing about Ross McCormack:

"McCormack is, in my opinion, not fit enough to play. He won't play unless his attitude towards training and missing training improves. If he continually keeps missing training then that's going to be the situation.

"Not in 20 years of management have I gone down this route before. I only ask one thing of them, to turn up. He's decided that the team has picked itself today."

"It hasn't quite worked for him. We all don't want this situation. That doesn't interest me. There's been too much indiscipline at this club for too long and I won't put up with it."

And it gets better:

McCormack’s latest excuse was that he was unable to make training as the electric gates on his property would not open.

Bruce challenged his player, asking him to jump over the fence and to book a taxi in order to make training.

But McCormack responded by saying that they were going to be fixed and he would try to get to the club’s Bodymoor Heath training base.

Unfortunately for Villa’s £12m summer signing from Fulham, Bruce was not about to take ‘No’ for an answer.

He discovered where McCormack lived and drove around to his house. He then jumped over the fence and rang on the doorbell whereupon he let rip at the startled player.

A passage which could quite easily have appeared in one of Steve Bruce's own books.

He then jumped over the fence

Bloody brilliant! Whatever you think about Steve Bruce that is the way to deal with a skyver! And those gifs are great!

Just been pointed out, check out the goal difference of 3 of the top 6.

Snodgrass to Burnley?

According to McNumpty - Clarets boss Sean Dyche has been a keen admirer of the 29-year-old and had to fight off interest from West Ham United to sign the Scotland midfielder.
