I agree, but I am interested to know what you think was appropriate Frank, in order to get the protection out there for grassroots referees (who I have seen on the end of absolutely fearful abuse, even in kids football)?

I think personally that on top of the ban and fine (which both could have been larger), Wenger actually should be forced to do some form of remedial work.

A fine means nothing to the likes of Wenger. In my opinion he should have received a stadium ban for three games, plus not being allowed in the technical area for another three games. If a player pushes a referee it is deemed as technical assault, why should a manager get away with it.

And your idea of remedial work is excellent.

Di Canio was banned for 11 matches for pushing the ref over, give Wenger the same.

Wycombe ahead at White Hart Lane. Fucking hell - I want to be first on MOTD!

I think they'll make it to match 1 on MOTD!

Ryan Mason has been released from hospital following his sickening injury at Stamford Bridge. I hope he makes a full recovery.

Bristol Rovers are to make an official complaint to the English Football League over Matty Taylor's deadline-day move to local rivals Bristol City.

They claim City knew the details of a release clause in striker Taylor's contract before making an offer.

I imagine that Taylor is not too popular in the blue and white half of Bristol.

Don't think there's any breach of regulations there, we knew about SEB's release clause when we signed him for instance. Holloway told us even though he was no longer manager of Plymouth.

Another nail in the coffin of the national team. And people think Dan Ashworth is doing a good job.

Next up: Megson to be the new technical director of the FA.

Having read Michael Calvin's book it makes a good case for him developing young players. His style of football (or, his personal playing philosophy) isn't as important here. There is a clear approach that England have and it is more down to Boothroyd's coaching ability to implement that.. I haven't personally seen him coach to know. I wasn't impressed by his England u20 team a couple of years ago mind.

It depends on the criteria you are judging Ashworth on. I've been fairly underwhelmed by the senior team (pre-dating Ashworth too) but we have made some significant strides in the youth set up. Dan Michiche dan take a lot of credit for that too. The talent we have coming through from 14-19 is extremely promising in my eyes. For me it now depends on pathways at their clubs. For example, Chelsea have a ridiculous array of talent that just isn't getting the opportunity they need. That sets us back.
