The F1 Thread

FFS.

The track limits thing was a good idea. The radio ban was fine, just not for car problems.

So the radio ban has now been lifted during races, no Halo for 2017 and track limits will no longer be penalised.

Just a ridiculous state of affairs. Basically new rules for every race.

If a driver gets killed like Bianchi and they have refused the halo then Bernie is going to get sued to fuck.

The Bianchi crash was partly caused by insufficient slowing under double yellows, which they let Nico get away with last week. It's all over the place.

I don't think the halo would have saved him unfortunately.

A truly tragic accident.

Yeah, the halo is more for the Justin Wilson style incidents. Though I'm not that convinced it'll even work as desired, I really do think it's an either/or question, open or closed cockpits.

You're right I think Nando, the forces and mass involved were just too great, I'm not sure anything could've saved him.

Good to see the McLarens up there.

I imagine the Williams and Force India will be on a par with them when they bolt the super softs on.

They're definitely making progress though. It looked excellent under braking last weekend and the traction out of the final corner was great.

All lap times set under double yellows will now be deleted.

That is a good idea IMO. Will fuck up a lot of laps though.

Double Yellow flags will now = Red Flag in Qualifying.

So if on their final run, they might be able to go back out and do it again

Track Limits still being used this weekend.

Just on one corner I think

From next season:

If a race starts under the Safety car due to rain, they will do laps until the track is suitable for racing....and then re-start from the grid positions

It's a bit overkill. As with Alonso last weekend he was cleared within 30s as his car was still running. Probably should have only been a single waved yellow IMO.

I like that. The number of laps will still need to reduce under the safety car though as they are limited on fuel.

Safety car helps save fuel doesn't it? Always hear them saying that after doing 5 laps or so under the SC that it now means they will have enough fuel to go all out for the rest of the race, or have misunderstood what Brundle and Co say

At Silverstone, we didn't get to hear all the radio messages from Lewis. He is always the 1st to say they should be racing but for the majority of the laps under the SC he was complaining he couldn't even see it and almost hit it at one point. Charlie Whiting was basing his decision on the info of the lead car.

Yeah you do save fuel but not enough to do all those laps again.

Brundle put forward the idea of starting on the grid after the safety car had taken them round during the start in Austria. He also said that they wouldn't have enough fuel to just start the race from that point.

If they do 5 laps under the safety car, they will count as laps of the race still from what I understand. F1 has a time limit the amount of laps set or 2 hours. If they do a crap load under the safety car and then restarted they would run out of time.

Hamilton summoned to the Stewards. Unsafe release in P3 (Grosjean had to hit the brakes and stop). If he gets a reprimand for it, that will be his 3rd of the season and a 10 place grid penalty..........and probably his engineer who gave the thumbs up to leave being mysteriously beaten up behind the Paddock

10,000 Euro fine for Mercedes. No punishment for Lewis
