Ok thanks. Though I am out until later this evening. I will try when I get home

No good I am afraid. The laptop is a few years old, and I only tried it because the good lady's PC is in hospital. Goodness knows what the problem is, though I suspect user error...

Just a quickie, Is Bullguard renowned for slowing things down, say for example you click a link off Facebook with a lot of adverts on it, it is painfully slow ?

I've never used it but in the experiences I've had helping people in the past it's been shown to be a massive resource hog and has been responsible for lots of blue screen of death crashes. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

I'm looking for a good, paid-for VPN. Any suggestions, guys?

I use Private Internet Access:

Used them for a couple of years and never had any issues - they have android & ios apps too. I've mainly used it for UK Catch Up when I'm away and it works really well

Yes, that was the one I was looking at. Thanks. Do you need to disable it to avoid being blocked by UK-only sites? (Or are there any other potential glitches I should know about?)

You can choose your location when you sign in (there's loads of options) I tend to just leave my location as UK London most of the time - normally I don't run it by default on my PC, only on my NAS and on my ipad when I'm away. IIRC you can have up to 5 devices connected simultaneously if needed.

Is it an iPad that can take a SIM card? If so, then yes. If not then no.

Are you not better just making your phone a hotspot?

Sometimes tethered data doesn't come under your contracted allowance. Best to double check your contract before going with this option.

It is for the good lady. Sometimes the Internet coverage on the Lincolnshire coast is not very good. She can get 4G on her phone, but would prefer to use her i pad. It looks like I will have to buy her ones with 4G.

This website shows if your details have been breached in any of the large, well known attacks. Put in the email address or account name which you use.

My advice if your account has been breached (mainly by un-named attacks in 2016, I.e lists of details released)

Especially if you use the same password for many websites...

Change the big ones, to something random and not linked to anything else-

Email
PayPal
EBay etc

Not to stir paranoia but if your details are out there there's a chance some little idiot is trying your details on many different websites seeing if they can get a match. There are free programs/bots that will do it for you...

This place seems as good as any...

Think the time has come when I probably need to get a new laptop, current one doesn't connect to wi-fi, has a couple of lines down one side of the screen and most of the screws have fallen out of case now. Not really sure what to do in terms of a replacement though, Sony Vaio were my go to for the last couple I bought but they're no longer an option so could do with a bit of advice or a few suggestions.

Ideally want 14", SSD, don't really do anything too strenuous with it so probably doesn't need to be the most powerful thing going as long as it can handle the likes of Football Manager, Motorsport Manager, Sim City, etc.

You got a budget?
