Summer 2026: Stay or Go

I think the thing that made Rui so exceptional was his positioning.
Hands down the best keeper i have seen live on positioning.

Used to love closely watching him when he was at the North Bank end.

Some people used to complain!! that he rarely made stunning saves...yep, because he didn't need to do so because of his positioning.

Agreed, that last season was a significant down turn though, how much you put on Covid is up to interpretation

Natural down turn i guess. He was ok at Roma but the Italian league is L1 standard or something.

They deserve Sam Johnstone as their number 1 tbh

The rest of us just have to suffer it

The amount of Wolves fans who jumped on João Moutinho in his last season. 36 years old, out of position, in a failing team and managed by Bruno Lage...

Those idiots deserve Jackson Tchatchoua.

Always thought Hennesey was way overrated. Decent shot stopper for the most part but such a big fanny whenever any forward got near him and always looked nervous under high balls.

It was Lopetegui at the end and whatever went on Joao refusing to turn up for his final game send off was disrespectful to the fans. It'll always drop him a notch in my view. We deserved better and so did he.

The best thing about Hennessey was his kicking.

Could comfortably kick it 80 yards, with the technique of a man kicking with 20% effort.

Comparatively, watch Mike Stowell kick it, every single time he was trying to take the leather (plastic) off the ball and not getting the distance Wayne would.

Maybe Joao knew he was going to treat him like a cunt like he did with Raul, and thought, na.

That season was both Lage & Lopetegui.

I'm sorry that you felt you were so disrespected. No idea what your issue is with Moutinho but it's really fucking strange.

Different eras different balls. Stowell was twice the keeper comparative to their era than Hennessey was. Those old videos you like to comment on firstly don't show the saves and secondly don't show the comparisons with other keepers at the time. For the early to mid 90s he was a PL keeper playing in the Championship, just like a number of our other players were, we just didn't have a combination of the luck or nouse to get there.

Refusing to turn up for a game for a club he was contracted to play for and I'm the strange one? He acted like a dick and disrespected the fans in doing so, if you can't see that then that's what it is.

To be fair, we had to wait until his second home game for an unbelievable save, from Raheem Sterlings shot. Unacceptable.

Hennessey was a very good shot stopper. I know that’s his “job” but he was above average for it even in the premier league. The only reason we weren’t already adrift by the time we sacked Mick was because of him (and Fletcher a bit).

I never understood why we didn’t make better use of his kicking too. Horrific command of his box though, and especially compared to the keeper he inherited the position from.
