Techy Stuff Help!

Depends what you need to do really. Basic stuff can be done with Windows Movie Maker. Part of the Windows Live Essentials pack last time I looked I to it.
Looking to cut videos together with added titles, nothing really fancy. We lost Windows Movie Maker on a recent reinstall. With probably go with that unless there is anything else similar.

My internet banner and favorites menu has turned black with white writing, what have I done ???

Post a screenshot mate? Have you got a recent Restore Point you can roll back to?

through my internet account i have an offer of a free tablet, up to 160E or pay a bit and get something else.
I want a tablet, predominantly for writing, and taking the odd picture, and I currently have a few things i am working on, on word in windows, on my laptop.

All the tablets in my range are using Android, jelly bean or the other one.

How does android compare to windows, can i transfer stuff from word to android to use in a text programme? or better still can i load my word file onto android? any idiot level advice would be gratefully accepted.

The free stuff on Android (Google Docs/Spreadsheets/Slides) is all pretty good. Docs will open Word files and it auto backs up to the cloud in the event of too much cypro!

Microsoft Office Mobile is free and miles better in my view.

thanks for the info guys.

I am slowly getting the hang of this tablet, but as I have never used either a smart phone or a tablet in my life before, it is contrary, in many ways (for me anyway), to how i have used computers up to now.

So to use the forum on the tablet as normal, do i need to download the app?

You can still browse the forum through the standard browser on the tablet same as you do on a PC.

Or you can download an app like Tapatalk which is a stripped down browser just for forums.

Wouldn't think Tapatalk would be worthwhile on a tablet. Invaluable on a phone of course but not really necessary with a large screen.

I don't use tapatalk when on my iPad. Safari works fine as it is.

I am in the process of upgrading my laptop to Windows 10. Everything was going fine, the installation was complete. Then it asked for my password, no problem there. But now I am being asked for my network security key. What on earth is that?

Have a look on the back of your router.

The last 24 hours or so I've been spammed to death by 'subscribers' to my newsletter, all from one apparent IP address and all using one of three or four email accounts. I've looked high and low and have been unable to find a way to block either the IP or the email accounts unless I start playing about with additional plugins to the existing WordPress setup. I think it means I would need to go into the coding of the site (it's my work one, link in signature) - something I know nothing about - and completely remove the newsletter sign up element.

Anyone got any ideas?

I've been having horrendous problems with the wifi at home lately.

We recently, couple of months ago, upgraded to BT infinity but over the last few weeks I've been really struggling to maintain a solid connection to it. It isn't always the case, most of this afternoon it was fine but then there's times like now where it'll crash after pretty much every page has loaded and then you have to go through all the troubleshooting nonsense to get the connection back and go again.

I'm really struggling to find a solution, or even really find the cause either, when I run the troubleshooting tool on my laptop I usually get a message either saying something about default gateway cannot be found or something to do with being unable to detect the network's proxy settings.

I've tried resetting the router, enabling/disabling and uninstalling/reinstalling my network adapter but nothing so far has provided anything more than a temporary fix. Strangely the problem also seems to be somewhat contagious at times, when it goes tits up on my laptop it tends to fuck things up on my phone too so I'm invariably having to turn wifi off on my phone and rely on mobile internet even at home, puts the shitters on the PS4 sometimes too. The frequency/intensity of the issue seems to vary in different parts of the house too, up in my bedroom seems to be the most stable it gets, come downstairs and it generally goes into it's super annoying, load one page then die mode.

Any ideas to diagnose/fix?

Run a WiFi analyser app on your phone or laptop and look if your network is sharing the same channel with other networks, if so dig into the hub settings and see if you can change the channel to one's which are free.

If the BT hub does a 5 GHz network make sure you use that rather than 2.4 too.
