Techy Stuff Help!

Damned warning came back. This after I shut the machine down having thought I'd nearly cracked it. So, after some more searching for both add-ons (none) and rogue programs (also none), it seems that refreshing Firefox - which seems a bit like a not-quite-full-factory-reset - has done the trick, however I'll wait until turning it off and on again before declaring it a total success.

what is the name of the addons/toolbars/website/whatever

Windows has decided to update on my computer and now the fonts all look a little weird. Looks like it's a known issue with rendering. Cheers Microsoft.

update your video drivers with a version from the manufacturer (or just roll back to a restore point before the updates).

15gb overnight is a bit much, not sure how to explain that one away off the top of my head... :smashpc:

I'm glad it's not just me then. It was the windows update that somehow chewed 20gb overnight! Bloody Microsoft, a computer engineer said it may be a corrupt drive but consulting the oracle (Google) it seems we're not alone. No idea how to fix it though!

WOT is a great little extra bit of protection. If you go to a poorly rated site it'll pop up and warn you for whatever reason. I've actually had it save me from a phishing site or two when I wasn't paying attention (normally when mistyping an address that gets redirected), and I'm not exactly unsavvy. Those are two plugins I always install for people at work after having to fix their virus problems.

Had a call last month where a coworker asked, "I'm trying to download firefox, so is the right address www.totallyfakefirefox.com or www.thisisavirusnotfirefoxlolol.net??" I obviously don't remember the exact addresses, but they were DEFINITELY blatant malware installations. WOT would've saved me some trouble with her! "Warning, fake downloads site, blah blah"

What's the real url for WOT? Googled and got https://www.mywot.com/, but Firefox prevents me installing the plugin, so I guess that's a scam site too. Ta.

The cunts. I knew I hadn't done anything.

Got a Steam cleaning thingy and clawed back 3GB but I want my 15GB back!

Windows 7 is a fucking hog. Bit of Googling suggests System Protection points are the culprit. Reduced it down to the minimum and back up to 96GB now. My word.

I will try that. Microsoft is a real pain sometimes.

Like undoing a pair of jeans that are two sizes too small. Properties - System Protection - then roll that bad boy back.

Cheers buddy, I think the System Protection thing had deleted all that crap though as only 37MB left in there when I've checked. Worth keeping in mind though for future.

Bloody Windows hoarding over 80GB to itself for no reason, what a liberty.

Was this affecting Windows 8 does anyone know?

that can happen on any of the OS's, but it's generally something gone wrong regardless, it's not some universal problem/fix

the Disk Cleanup tool is your friend. :)

My dad wants a new flash drive for fathers day. 16 or 32GB.

Any recommendations? are ebuyer/mymemory the best/cheapest options?

Unrelated question. I want to record a radio broadcast this weekend.
Can I do that from the radio stations website?
Is it simple/straightforward?

Should be, LJ. You'll need to be at your PC to do so and the sound recorder will probably do the job. If not, download Audacity, it's a good recorder and editor.

Audacity hasn't really worked for recording the stereo mix from the PC since Windows 7 came out - unless it's been updated?

I use my memory and can't fault the service they offer.

Absolutely. They are currentlyu offering a 64GB flash drive for a tenner.

Cheers both. Ordered said 64gb drive.

Any ideas other than audacity folks? Is audacity easy to use? I'm a complete novice with computers. Can basically turn em on & off. That's pretty much it...
