Techy Stuff Help!

Seems that the internet connection that was flagging up when i tried to go into the Windows 8 installation was because it won't work with a generic or OEM product key, so because i didn't buy a retail copy of Windows 8 to begin with it seems it's not possible to create an ISO file with which i can create bootable DVD/USB to get it onto my laptop. If that's the case the how is anyone who buys a computer with Windows pre-installed supposed to overcome this issue?!

Did you contact the manufacturer? I think they have generic keys that they use to install Windows 8 which then combines with the TPM chip to activate. Either that or they can send you the restore discs.

Or you might be able to disable the TPM chip in the BIOS?

You can buy restore discs from Sony but they come at a hefty cost now it's outside of warranty, just making the phonecall to have them sent out sounds pricey enough.

It mentioned in one of the spin offs from that big guide that generic keys won't work to create boot media, just gives you an internet connection error and apparently you can't just put a new code into Enterprise edition to bump that into the full version either.

Doesn't seem a lot of scope for sorting yourself out unless you created yourself the recovery disc in advance while your original OEM version of windows was still up and running, neither the generic or OEM codes i have available to me now will work to create boot media from a downloaded installer or bump up the installed version.

I was researching this last night for my PC, it has an option of One Key back up, it saves everything as an image, and that image is 50Gb. Does that sound right? my data at the mo is about 50Gb, but saving it as an image?

I image all the time, they've saved my skin a couple of times. I use Macrium Reflect Free and it's brilliant. I'll link it later and some info on how to use it. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I use Macrium for work. It's brilliant.

I've some mp3s on my pc I want to burn onto a disc.
The usb ports are playing up again. I did uninstall/re-install & that worked, til the other day. Tried again once & for some reason it ain't working.

I need to move them to another device. Tried emailing them & owing to the limit, outlook/hotmail won't do it, so onedrive it is supposed to be.
However, onedrive doesn't appear to be willing to upload the files.
Is there another option?

Do you mean a hard disc? or a cd? I presume your PC DVD/CD drive is not rewritable no? You should be able to burn discs thru your media player otherwise.
If not, upload them to Dropbox or Google Drive, or even Soundcloud.

Onto a cd & non-writeable drive here.

Dropbox proved to be the (very slowly uploading) solution. Cheers DW & DDW.

SO..... I've got my new laptop and it didn't have Chrome installed on it. I went on the Internet Explorer, searched "Free Chrome Download".
When I went to install it, it is in Spanish! Uninstalled it and searched ENGLISH Chrome Download.....It's STILL Spanish :uhoh2:
Went to the bottom of the page for languages and selected "English", did the same in the settings at the top right and it still says "Nueva pestana" when I open a new tap and all the offers it makes me for Password saves etc are in Spanish too.
Anyone got any Idea how I can get one that prompts me in English?

Yes I downloaded it from the Chrome website but the instructions were all in English till it came to installation

Thanks Stan and Johnny....It was tough work trying to work out where the correct instructions were but I got there in the end!
