This is true. On Friday Nuno wanted him out because there was a press quote that said so, today the club have literally said at the start of the window there were no plans to sell him, but that's them being politically nice. There isn't a debate any longer. Matt Doherty has become TWF's Brexit [emoji3]I think whatever happens or whatever the club says people just fit it into their preconceived version of what's going on!

Statement appears to me that the club received a bid, and after discussing it with the coaching team they decided that we could upgrade in that area and decided he can go. See ya later Matt.
Sigh. Nobody knows what is going on though. I refuse to believe we're not working on bringing in a RWB, although I have absolutely no idea who that might be or how far down the line negotiations are.
It's why I don't get the hyperbole over this. If we DON'T bring in a replacement/improvement (delete as appropriate) then fine - the sale makes very little sense and it weakens us so criticism and questions will be justified but we are simply not at that point yet. Yes, I'll say it again - show a bit of patience.
Anyway, good luck, Matt. Was a pleasure to watch you transform your career here, fair dos for doing so.
Sparked by a poor use of the word equivalent. I am very concerned at the gap in quality between our starting 11 and our back ups. Apart from wingers our back up is quite a bit poorer . I do not think that is the same in any other club bar Sheffield United , newly promoted teams excluded. I fear it’s another season of the sky six winning everything , buying everyone of note and the gap between them and the rest growing.
What doesn’t help my frustration is us saying we need to strengthen our depth quality (Nuno said that after we lost to Seville) and promptly letting two members of that already thin squad go. One a regular starter and one on the fringe.
Now I would happily have taken upgrades on both and have said as much but it’s highly unlikely AML is coming here. We are still several players short and the season is two weeks away.
Sounds like they wanted to upgrade and he wanted to go, so it was ideal for both parties.
This is another common stance: no one knows what is going on so let's only say nice things.
I don't think ANYONE on here thinks we aren't working on bringing in a RWB! The discussion lies around other areas
This obsession with only talking about things when they're fully complete is just such a smokescreen... Does that mean we scrap match day threads and just close TWF till after the final day of the season, where we can actually analyse, praise, critique to our hearts content?
Why do we have to wait till the transfer window has closed until we can talk about transfers?? Cos some people are terrified of the club being criticised for some weird reason...
And even when things are over, and 'patience' has been exhausted, like with last summer's transfer window, the reality of it gets rewritten.
Stuff patience, can we just discuss things as they are unfolding, even with the limited info available, and our own instincts and judgements and personalities??
Otherwise what is the point of this place?
Nice try but no.
Jeff literally said they hadn't planned it, then the offer came in.
So the desire to upgrade wasn't the motivator, the offer came in, Doc wanted to go, Jeff and Co decided in clubs best interests to let it happen (which could just as easily mean they were worried about morale, rather than they thought he was crap and wanted to upgrade )

And you know that the club don’t have a replacement lined up and intended to keep Doherty as backup but then thought the £15m would be of more use how?
If it wasn't a position they were looking to upgrade I would be very shocked. Regardless, time for Vinagre to shine.
