Paul Birch: Wolves Goals

Top goals scored by 1990s Wolves midfielder - Paul Birch.

Paul Birch joined Wolves from local rivals Aston Villa for £400,000 where he joined up with former manager Graham Turner.

Birch stayed at Wolves for five years, playing in over 150 games, as Wolves (unsuccessfully) tried to break into the Premier League. He was almost an ever-present under Turner, but found regular appearances harder to come by after Wolves appointed another former manager of his, Graham Taylor.

Although not a prolific scorer from midfield, but when he did score, it was invariably a memorable goal.

He scored 19 goals in total for Wolves of which 17 are detailed in this compilation video.

Tragically in May 2008, it was revealed he was suffering from bone cancer and he died on February 2nd 2009, he was only 46 years old.

The next Wolves Goal compilation will be for Dean Sturridge planned for later this month.

Enjoyed the Paul Birch compilation, I must admit I had a bit of a soft spot for him but hadn't realised he scored as many as he did, mostly crackers too.

Today's update:

Dean Sturridge: Wolves Goals

Top goals scored by Wolves goalscoring ace - Dean Sturridge.

Dean Sturridge initially joined Wolves on loan in November 2001 and he started brightly as he netted 4 times in his opening two games. This convinced the club to make the loan permanent after the initial month and he signed for £350,000 on Christmas Eve 2001.

His goalscoring form continued throughout the 2001/02 season, and he finished as the club's leading goalscorer with 21 goals in total from only 30 games, which took them to the play-offs, but unfortunately Wolves bowed out losing to Norwich City in the semi-finals.

The following season saw him notch another 10 (3rd top scorer) which again helped Wolves achieve a play-off finish, where they eventually won promotion to the Premier League.

However, Sturridge didn't enjoy much of the team's top flight season as a combination of injuries and new arrivals sidelined him for all but 5 games, and he was loaned out to Sheffield United.

He was unable to put his injury problems behind him though and never regained a regular starting place for Wolves again. He moved on to Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer in March 2005.

Deano scored 32 goals in total for Wolves - all of which are included in this compilation video.

For February there are 3 Wolves goalscorer compilations planned - Don Goodman, George Ndah and Mark Kennedy.

Tbf we've had some great goal scorers over the years haven't we.
It's probably the main reason why I've made these compilations, especially as there isn't any other videos showing their feats.

I started with the Doog, King John and Kenny as I thought it was criminal there was no real record/video of their goals from the 70s. It's now expanded to include many of our top goal scorers from the 1990s, 2000s and soon to include the 2010s.

Planned for March are Alex Rae, Bakary Sako and Nouha Dicko.

Premier League copyright restrictions prevent me from releasing videos on YouTube for Raul, Jota and Neves; but I intend to include them in the website I'll be working on during this year - along with Cunha.

Happy to take any requests for players I have missed.
