All about opinionsNot that many teams play RWBs (nor is he a conventional RWB), but no, no he isn't.
Because Spurs want him, so pay going rate for a PL player with “favourable stats” in back to back season. Whether we tink he’s shit or Spurs think he’s limited (they don’t or they wouldn’t be trying to sign him, as you say “they see a role for him”).
Why you and others are trying to justify a low fee for him is baffling. Why can’t we just accept that £15m for a starting WB, not angling for a move, with a long contract, with statistically two good seasons, to a top 6 club is just strange. Whether we want him or not, or whether we sign TAA for £15m afterwards is irrelevant to whether £15m for Matt Doherty to spurs is less than the going rate.
Now we might think we mentioned by someone earlier that a quick sale and then reinvesting the money straight away is better than haggling for a few extra million. It might be but again it doesn’t change that in isolation £15m is bad value.
But if Nuno has identified Doherty as one to upgrade there is a limited market for a player like him. If he's worth a lot more where are all those teams that think so? It was clear he might be available yet nobody called Jeff and said "Is he really going for £12-15m, if so we'll pay you £3m more because we want him"?
I'd like to think I'm normally fairly rational but I am getting a bit twitchy now about new signings.
Not even anything for the u23s
Can't remember where I read it as I dismissed it out of hand originally (makes me think it was probably Joey E&S) but someone definitely said something along the lines of us focusing on outgoings before we brought anyone in.
I think people are panicking a bit because the season starts so soon but these are not normal circumstances and the window doesn't shut for a long time yet
Clutching at straws? Jesus Christ.
Not commented on the Doc situation yet but without wanting to sound like a broken record, we don't know what is happening behind the scenes, who we've targeted, who we've made contact with and if we have, how far down the line the negotiations are.
I can't bring myself to get worked up about Doherty leaving until we see the end result when the window closes.
I absolutely trust Nuno and Jeff Shi because they have improved this club to a degree I didn't think was possible, particularly in the time frame they have. We are making rapid progress in terms of overall growth even if our transfer business - on the surface - looks rather stagnant.
In short, I think they know what they're doing and there will be a lot going on behind the scenes that we have no idea about.
As ever, supporters need to show some faith and some patience.
That has been said from the start, but if the player wants to leave then Arteta's hands are tied. The issue is the fee. They want £20-25m for him. We don't want to pay much more than £15m. Or at least that was reported to be our opening offer.Hopefully we have moved on to other targets. The noises coming out of Arsenal are that Arteta likes him and wants to keep him.
