Summer 2020 Transfer Window (Extended Version)

What he does at spurs is completely irrelevant. It's what we've just lost from our play that matters. He's a consistent threat in the opposition box, which we don't get from any of our other defenders or indeed central midfielders. We're under no financial pressure to sell, he wasn't agitating, and we've sold him for a similar fee to that which prized the might of Kyle Walker-Peters away from spurs. We're now expecting a new signing to come in and make an immediate impact, which isn't exactly something we're great at.

I don't care what Southampton valued KWP at in what was a glorified swap. That's even more irrelevant to us.

Think Patricio, Ruddy, Douglas, Bonatini, Neves, Boly, Jimenez, Jonny, Jota and Moutinho all did ok when they first came in but y'know.

Just to put it out there... Is this Jose doing Mendes a favour by taking Doc? We may have needed the additional cash and perhaps with players coming in it will help balance the books?

The club obviously don't think they've sold themselves short.

not really any conclusions to be drawn until the end of the window, but I do seem to feel like making my trousers have some liquid

This is where I am, the club have made a conscious decision about Docs value. They've done well on sales up to now.

They didn't have to accept the Spurs offer unless Doc properly threw his toys out the pram and left the club with no choice.

Jeff, Nuno and the team would have all contributed to this decision.

Exactly. Transfers on the whole are weird and sometimes wonderful things, the money we recouped for Olofinjana, Edwards, Afobe, Bodvarsson and the like were truly amazing and sometimes we get our pants pulled down. But in this instance they've obviously seen a good deal for reasons none of us will ever know about, from a personal point of view I've already explained why I think it's decent business and people are free to disagree of course, but at the end of the day it's the club who make these decisions and this one won't have been taken over a pint and packet of crisps.

One thing I won't do is preach that I'm right, it's only my opinion at the end of the day.

Well according to Sky and Dharmesh Sheth, Spurs and Wolves have agreed a fee of £15m for Doherty and he'll be having his medical this weekend. Wave.

Forgive my ignorance, but is the supposed sell on fee still valid? Doc has been here 10 years, so has had several contracts, will the original have had a stipulation that all further contracts require the sell on clause to be added on?

Here's a question for the Doherty Defence Force.

In the last two years, which first team regular has been weaker that we haven't already got rid of?

Yes, it's a high bar. But that high bar is where we are.

I would think that any subsequent contract offered are between the club and the player and have absolutely zero bearing on the agreement between the two clubs. I didn't even realise there was a sell-on fee.

The Doherty Defence Force? FFS people just think 13.5mill is low!

Make up any parameter you want I find it astonishing anyone would think it isn't.

I don't care that much mate. If you had your eye on a fabulous Jaguar and decided along the way to chuck your current motor away for £5k when it was possibly, maybe worth £8k, well, you don't care in the end, do you? You've got your Jaguar.

As I say, keep remembering the key fact. Nuno doesn't want him any more, even if you do.

So suddenly you don't care how much we receive for our players.

OK.

Oh and that has to be your worst analogy ever, of course you care about how much you get for your assets. Particularly if you are an investment company that prides itself on every penny counting, else Wolves would just sell every player they don't need for the first bid they receive.

Your words hurt, you know.

I don't know how much plainer I can make it. So here's your Hungry Horse grilled chicken and chips (no mayo) version:

I don't care that we're selling Matt Doherty as I don't like him and don't think he's very good.

I can't do any more than that.

All that was two or more years ago though, our more recent record doesn't inspire as much confidence?

Which is yet another reason I believe the deal is right for the club, they've proved their no mugs on numerous occasions. I'll trust them on this one as well.
