Summer 2020 Transfer Window (Extended Version)

If it ends up being true and Doc is replaced by AMN, does that nean Nuno thinks we've gone as far as we can with the style of play of the last 2 seasons? maybe we need to be more dynamic? probably too early to say and will depend on other players incoming I suppose

I think dynamic is the perfect word. Doc in general, but particularly post lockdown, has a laboured style and can be very sluggish. It slows our play down in open play for sure. So if that’s the aim then I think we are on the right track but it’s going to be hard to find the right player

I would be massively disappointed if Buta was seen as the only answer to replacing Doherty.

If we sign him we still need another, who can preferably play both sides. So AMN would be ideal because would allow Buta time to settle too. I’ve not seen him play so I know nothing about him!

got a few feed notifications about doc being sold for 14.7m... so I guess it's actually happening, then. I could have seen an upgrade coming in for him, but to be sold altogether with no one else in yet, wowza

Just the way it works sometimes, not everything is always done in the order you'd expect. I mean otherwise tons of transfers would never happen as everyone would be waiting for something else before they pushed the button. It'd be the football equivalent of the "no, you hang up" conversation with a girl.

Absolute nonsense of a fee. 2 weeks til City and we've got 12 Premier League ready footballers.

He's only worth what someone else will pay.

What if we sign a better player (as I'm sure is the plan, and actually isn't that hard), he sits on the bench for most of an entire season as we're basically only playing Premier League football, he's now nearly 30 and he's got a year less on his contract? What is he worth then?

What if we need this money now to help us do what we really want to elsewhere? I'm not privy to our cashflow or our precise FFP position. Shall we put everything else on hold so we squeeze an extra £3m out of Spurs so it fits with perceived "market value", even though there's no such thing?

The manager doesn't want him any more is your takeaway here, as much as you might like him.

On Tecatito, I think he's far too slight to be given any real defensive responsibility in the Prem. If we were to sign him, it'd have to be as an outright attacker, IMO.

Someone on Twitter is suggesting we have made a bid of €19 million for Jesus Corona

Even with my doubts about him defensively, that would be an absolute steal for us.

He's not just worth what someone will pay though, he's worth what we accept. And if that offer isn't good enough, we reject it. Similarly to how we'd all react if we sold Raul for £35m. Similar age and contract, but nowhere near enough to adequately replace the output that's pretty much guaranteed, even if it's only for the next 2 years.

This bit is confounded by his desire and/or willingness to move, though, surely?

Yes, someone scores nearly 50 goals in two years and we accept a £3m profit. That is the same.

It's "outrageously wrong" in your opinion, I say he isn't actually very good.

As none of us can possibly know the actual numbers bandied about in the boardroom, I don't think we can say that we're "outrageously wrong" to accept any bid.

15m could be the most any of the interested clubs were willing to pay. And Doc's value isn't really going to get higher from here.

Will we have though? If we end up with a better player and he does nothing (the first we don't know, the latter I'd say is quite likely).

You can have my Smiths collection for £10k if you like. But just because I value it that highly doesn't mean anyone is going to pay it.

I think if you’d said to me two weeks ago how much would I expect for Doherty it would be 20-25m, so 15 is on the low side on the face of it. But we clearly seem to have accepted this is a reasonable fee, which I hope means we know we have got good value elsewhere for a replacement
