Summer 2017 Window Thread

What all sides need - and what Karl Henry 2008 vintage had - was the sheer, bloody-minded will to win. Neves and Jota might well be two of the most talented players we have ever had at Wolves but do they want to win games week in, week out? To use the cliches, do they want to win ugly on a cold Tuesday night in Preston? The simple fact is that we won't know until the season starts, but they couldn't get a stiffer test than Saturday's game. I'm slightly worried it will come too soon for us, but if we are on the wrong end of a 0-3 it doesn't mean Fosun have screwed up and it will at least show the players what they need to do. Oh, and if we are going back in time to find players to slot in next to Neves, Mike Bailey every time

So, would he fit into the Mick's promotion team?............

On the article - I usually like the stuff from this guy but I think he knows as much as I do on him from watching his YouTube clips.

I was thinking the same thing. A long shoulder shrug of an article.

I never expected anywhere near as many new signings this summer - when you hark back to Lambert's words towards the end of last season, it's a world away from where we could have been.

Whilst I was never a Lambert-hater and wouldn't have minded too much if he had stayed on (obviously without the hindsight of what HAS happened), the difference in mood, expectation and excitement is quite unbelievable.

I don't think we've seen the last of the new signings either.

Can we just give Alex Goncalves a job? We may as well.

New signing Leo Bonatini (AMA)
The 23-year-old Al Hilal player will be available for the Championship opener against Middlesbrough.

The former Cruzeiro youngster has been playing in Saudi Arabia for the past year and netted 15 goals in 36 appearances.

“It is a dream for me to play here and to live here – it is an amazing country,” said Bonatini.

“I have played in other countries already and the experience I had in Saudi Arabia was very good.

“The staff here are already trying to help me with everything and I am sure it will go well.

“It is a new change and all the time you feel you have the butterflies in the stomach – that is normal.

“Then when you go inside the pitch for the first time it is normal again and then I will feel very happy to have a big opportunity.

“It is a big club and is also famous in Brazil, and I am very excited to play here.

Leo Bonatini Signs For Wolves
“It is a dream to play in the Championship but even more in the Premier League and we can put our names in the history of this club if we achieve it.

“When you come to a new club all the time you always want to put your name in the history “I am not here to be more than anyone else – I am here to be a part of it with my team-mates and at the end of this season hopefully we are in the first league.”

The 6ft striker will become Wolves' fourth loanee and their 11th signing of a busy summer.

Goalkeepers John Ruddy and Will Norris, defenders Ryan Bennett, Roderick Miranda, Willy Boly (loan), Phil Ofosu-Ayeh, Ruben Vinagre (loan) and Barry Douglas and midfielders Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota (loan) have joined so far.

“I am very happy to be here,” he says.

“I was very impressed with everything, the history to the club, my team-mates, and I hope it will be a very good season for all of us.

“The training ground is amazing and I know the stadium is very nice.

“I hope to be happy here, score many goals, and help us have a very good season.

“The Championship is a very good league and I am looking forward to the project here.

Wolves' new Brazilian striker: Who is Leo Bonatini?
“Big players have come here because of the project and we want to go to the Premier League, although we know how hard that will be.

“If we work hard and trust in the club and the coach we can support each other and do well.”

The Brazilian had previously impressed in the Portuguese top flight for Estoril where he bagged 20 goals in 37 matches in 2015/16 after initially moving from Cruzeiro on loan.

“I don’t like to put limits on myself

“If I say no that I want to score ‘x’ number then when I get there people might think I will relax.

“I prefer to work day by day, step by step.

“It is a high level here so I want to work as hard as I can and to learn.

“What I will do is fight all the way and do my best all the time.

“I work every day to be better and to help everyone.

“When I go inside the pitch I will to play hard and play well.

“We will all work together and then hopefully in the next season, we will be in the first league.”

The need for a new striker has been highlighted by an unspecified injury to Nouha Dicko, who missed the friendlies against Peterborough and Leicester City.

It is not known whether the Mali international will be ready for Saturday.

I never took to Lambert, thought he was a poor appointment the day he took the job and he did little or nothing to make me change my mind other than a one month purple patch. But it is abundantly clear his ability and ambition are way, way, way out of sync with that of the ownership.

Tim Nash -

Ian Cathro, 31, who's just been sacked as Hearts @TynieTalk51 head coach and was Nuno's No 2 at Rio Alves and @valenciacf, is at @Wolves.

Cathro is a fucking tube.

An absolute laughing stock up here. A brown nosing simpleton who played some of the worst football I've seen in the SPL.

As a manager - appalling appointment but Nuno has worked with him before so clearly sees something he likes, especially if he is bringing him in for the 3rd time.

Hasn't he only just turned 30 as well?

For many years we have had to suffer a Board that did not want to act decisively and with commitment to building a top flight squad, and managers who were prepared to work under the the limited budget in the belief their leadership talent would turn the mediocre into superstars.

Thankfully that now appears to have changed.

I felt quite sorry for him, didn't stand a chance people were ready to lynch him before he even started.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Nuno get him involved in some capacity. Benitez clearly rated him too.

He did a terrible, terrible job at Hearts. There's no covering that up. It's not true that he didn't stand a chance, a lot of Hearts fans I know were willing to give him a chance but he blew it.

His 'rise' is indicative of everything that's wrong with Scottish football right now. He's highly rated because Levein went around telling people he was highly rated, not because of anything he's actually done.

He may never make a decent manager but I doubt Nuno and Rafa have employed him off the back of comments by Levein?

He did his coaching badges with Nuno. He got the Newcastle job after a recommendation from CL (who had been recommending him to every club that would listen for years).

Especially given that nuno and Benitez appointed him before levein...

He was at Dundee United with Levein before he went to Rio Ave.

He was a youth coach for a year at Dundee Utd before levein left, then stayed a further three years. He then got the rio ave job because he did his coaching badges with nuno, and became Newcastle assistant manager under mclaren. Not sure Craig levein had anything to do with any of it?

Either way, he did badly as a manager but is a very highly rated coach - im not sure why you seem to take him so personally?

Plenty of instances in football and in business of people who are really good #2's but just can't make the step up to being the boss.
