Striker Needed ????

It isn't.

We aren't changing the formation. We aren't going to sign a penalty box striker, unless that striker can also do all the things Raul does. And that will cost a HUGE sum. We might spend it, we might not.
That is just wrong and not an open mindset if true

Well in that case the balance of play just switches to the middle of the pitch, instead of always having to go wide because you're outnumbered in the middle you can actually build play through the centre of the pitch and you're not reliant on crossing it in to score goals.

Mark as much as I agree we could do that we can't control midfield at the moment. It would be easier to shut us down but realistically we would still have width so you could be right.

It's just that everything Nuno says points to this as a concrete plan. As Paddy says a old fashioned type out and out striker won't work in this system. Our problem is that the lack of a striker of that ilk should be compensated for by the IF's chipping in and creating as well ATM they just ain't

Jota, Costa, Cavaleiro and Enobakhare got 32 goals between them last season. 39% of our goals. Which is why it didn't matter too much that Bonatini, Afobe and Dicko only got 19 between them.

This year our quartet (with Bright replaced by Adama) have three goals. We're already down to 23% of the total output (in fact, it's exactly what Raul has on his own) and that's including Adama's goal at West Ham which looks a total outlier, it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't score again all season.

Raul actually did an impression of your mythical penalty box striker last night. Outside the box he may as well have been wearing a blue shirt. But his header led to the goal, he had another header at the near post just wide and a third effort wide from range. Was it a good fit for us? No.

Well if your extra man in the middle isn't helping to boost that control through the centre of the pitch then what's the point in playing them?

I am pleased with where we are now,but again it's the same argument,I will be absolutely amazed if we don't sign a quality finisher,we are simply not scoring enough.I,m not a betting man but I would put a lot on Nuno bringing in not one but two forwards.

It’s not as though it’s 1 player who can’t score - there were 5 different players last night who could/should have scored. Jimenez I thought led the line well so is he the player who gets binned ?

Don't think we have had problems scoring in recent games, we finished pretty well. A lot of that is having Jota back, but still Raul and Doc have done well too.

We are not a team to have a Kane style no 9. Aubamayang would go great in our team though :)

Don't think you can really point the finger at finishing yesterday, there really weren't many clear chances in either direction and I can only think of three proper efforts from Wolves.

Saiss in the first half when he was played in by Doherty but being as left footed as he is meant it would always be extremely difficult for him to get a great effort on goal from where he was.

Saiss again with the one that dropped in the box but in this case I think van Dijk did just enough to make life difficult for him to get a clean strike on the ball, perhaps even got a toe on it himself.

Then we had MGW with the best opportunity of the lot, still don't think it would've been a complete sitter with Alisson rushing out to close down the angle but at that range you've just got to get a solid effort on target and hope it gets through the keeper some how. That's maybe the only one where I think a more natural goalscorer might have made a difference, a real top striker perhaps has the composure to feint the shot and drag the ball inside to put the keeper on their arse and then it's an easy finish, be an impressive take though.

Liverpool have only conceded 7 goals so far this season. We created 3 or 4 half chances against them. Traores 2 shots should also have been on target really. Using that game as a barometer of our strikers is misguided.

That's how to hold the ball up,be a goal threat, run the line and keep three defenders busy, trouble is he wasn't on our side!.

Have you ever watched us play? Mitrovic in our side would be as useful as your granny

Fulham played 5-4-1. Having one player stood around doing fuck all but attack long balls works then. Doesn't work at all for us.

I think you do him a disservice.
I like Mitrovic, but you have to set your side up to play to his strengths and around him. If that's what you want to do then fine, but he doesn't have the touch or control to play the number 9 role we need.

Mitrovic's touch is equally as good as Raul and his passing ability too. Granted, he's not as dynamic but to say he wouldn't work is a stretch. We have a player who is very different (Bonatini) who doesn't really work with a totally different set of attributes to Mitrovic. Despite him (Mitrovic) being a big lump he is a very good player should you be able to get it out of him. He's more than just a target-man, he is able to create and has a better touch than you give him credit for.

I wasn't suggesting he play for us,simply making the point that he is a good player, final third for us was nearly non existent, playing on the halfway line playing keep ball.Never mind, maybe just maybe a couple of new arrivals next month?,merry Xmas to you all.

I think he'd do OK in our system. He isn't as bad on the ball as some make out. We wouldn't create many chances for him though.
