I've been a Wolves supporter for over 57 years now, and in that time, we've only had 2 really good teams.
I define
really good as when the club was able to sustain for
at least 3 seasons a period of seriously threatening and beating the top teams (ie we were one of the top 6 or 7 teams in the league at the time). That rules out a one-off season like 1979/80.
The two times Wolves were really a top team were from 1970/71 to 1973/74 and from 2017/18 to 2020/21. Yeah I know 17/18 we were in the Championship but it was still a fucking delight to watch.
In the early 70s it was lost as McGarry was incapable of replacing his ageing stalwarts in Bailey, Wagstaffe and Dougan. In recent times it has been lost mostly due to the incompetent interfering, and undermining, of a certain Jeff Shi (admittedly COVID didn't help).
If we have to wait for another 50 years to see another
really top Wolves team I won't be around to see it
.
