Striker Needed ????

LOL

There is still a need for one more, but only if the right player becomes available at a price we are prepared to pay.

Jiminez is integral to the way we play so if he gets injured then it will need different answers.

Don't want to buy (or even loan) someone just for the sake of it unless it is a player who will have value to us beyond this season. We have played without Raul on 1 or 2 occasions & not suffered enormously & our current position/points gives us a bit of leeway.

Value in January is usually very poor.

It think we'll still add a wing back. We were clearly after one in the summer with Cancelo (what a signing he would've been) and Zinchenko.

Wouldn't disagree with that - we have some cover in that Jonny can play either side so with Vinagre & Doherty in theory we have 2 for either side, but injury there will hurt

100% agree, I'd rather sign no-one than any squad fillers just to appease a certain section of our support, I'm still only expecting one to come in, a striker, but you never know with Mr Mendez in our corner

We're fortunate that we don't have any position of absolute need. That said nobody has convinced as the right IF so I'd be happy to see somewhere there although I wouldn't be surprised to see Cav go if that was the case which would disappoint me.

My number one wish though would be someone more experienced to play the MGW role when we go 3412. Someone that can see a quick first time pass and break beyond the forwards. Get one of those and we'll stop having trouble against teams who set up to stifle us.

Signing someone that hampers the development of MGW would be a mistake in my opinion.

I think MGW is most fit for the MGW role

Depends on whether you view having a more experienced player to learn from as hampering his development. He'd still get reasonable playing time from the bench. Is Foden's development hampered by playing and training with KDB and David Silva, or is he learning from them?

Think if you're looking to improve the alternative, playing with something more akin to a proper front two, then it may more appropriate to sign another forward. Someone different to Jimenez who could perhaps offer a bit more of a direct goal threat. That would free up Jota as an option to play in the withdrawn role instead of MGW if required, and there's always the option of putting Moutinho there with either Dendoncker or Saiss playing deeper in midfield.

I think the big drawback there though would be that a different type of forward wouldn't add any benefit with the 343, so you'd perhaps have to sign another forward again as an alternative to Jimenez in that shape.

Loaning somebody like Solanke would be good for us this season. He plays the way Jimenez does and is unlikely to be getting games at Liverpool anytime soon.

We don't always need to buy as our need is to get somebody who can compete for and cover Jiminez is more crucial than buying a player.

Our priorities are different now and getting somebody in who could make us better long ter, is likely to cost serious bucks in the summer. The days of not wanting players on loan just because they're not going to be with you next season are gone. We are shopping in a different place now and the mindset needs to change accordingly.
