Striker Needed ????

Find out when the current back ups get their chance. Jota and Costa not scoring is an issue but so far we have managed to ride that out by being solid at the back (bar 58 seconds v Watford).

This. We need a good striker to back Jiminez up, maybe a young player or a veteran on loan in Jan so Raul can have a rest every now and again.

We're still at the point where we need a goal scoring version of Leo (now Raul), Raul is a massive upgrade on Leo but still not an amazing goal scorer. Shame that an upgrade on Raul would probably cost £60m+

To be fair to Raul he is not a fox in the box. I expected more goals from Costa and jota. I agree we need better back up for Raul. But Raul also needs to take more of the chances he gets. 22 shots 2 goals 7 big missed must improve. His link up is superb.I am a real fan. If you're a number 9 and you get a chance you must convert more of the biggies.

Started this thread in July,wondered if there were any new views on the subject?,have any of the original members changed there minds on the need for a striker/finisher joining the club?.Your thoughts below please.

We have various young players in different stages of development both as individuals and as team players and we trust this coach to help them become more rounded players. Now each of us might look for different qualities in a player, personally I hope Nuno works them on combination play, awareness and better passing in the opponents half. But if Nuno wants runners with the ball and line breakers that's fine by me. Its nice to have trust in the coach.

I don't think it will be long before we see Benny Ashley-Seal make the bench and he could well be the back up Raul needs.

I’d like to see a bit more “devil” from Benny, he’s got all the ingredients in that he’s big, he’s strong, he’s quick, can finish and has a decent touch, just doesn’t have quite enough urgency, and my impression is that he is a bit nice for first team football at the moment.

Not saying he needs to turn into Roy Keane, but a bit more like Steve bull wouldn’t go amiss...

We do need another Striker. But thats purely because Leo isn’t good enough. If we could I sign another Raul (hopefully from Europe), so that we can play someone else when he’s injured/tired or just as fresh legs after 60, without it being a massive downgrade in quality or need a big change in strategy.

His output isn’t a problem, he’s being a little let down by the supporting cast. If Cav/Costa/Jota/Adama just up their game slightly then everything else will lol after itself

Zero change for me. Raul is class and is getting chances, confident he will hit double figures which would be a magnificent return for that role in a non top 6 team.

The main issue has been the lack of goals from elsewhere. Jiminez has been linking and bringing others in for chances.

Have faith in Raul to get sufficient to be called a success, but if another good deal is gettable in Jan can still see us doing that as don't think that the back up is currently good enough/or very inexperienced.

2 goals and 5 assists I think it is from Raul, that's more than enough for me so far as our main frontman. Jota, Costa in particular are still finding their feet at this level but they will score goals and its that area where I am more concerned to be honest. Yes a good back up to replace Leo would be nice but I don't see us splashing the cash to improve on Raul just yet.

I am at the point now where I would like to see Benny on the bench over Leo, we know Leo won't make it at this level and I don't need to see him miss any more decent chances to be convinced of that. I am very grateful for his contribution last season and he is a lovely chap but I think hes reaching the end of his time with us now.

I don't think we need a finisher any more now than when the OP was made. An Afobe wouldn't have fitted the side then and wouldn't now. Jimenez is an upgrade on Bonatini but my preference would be to improve on him not back him up. His link up play is decent, but doesn't do enough dirty work in the box for me. Last week and tomorrow he'll come up against Championship standard centre halves but doesn't pressurise them into making mistakes when we are out of possession. As I said earlier in the week, it's not his game, I get that, but I'd like someone that it does come more naturally too.

I think he's done plenty of hustle and bustle in games I've seen, far more determined in that respect that Bonatini and offers more threat in behind too even though he's not rapid.

We now have to go with what we have,we cannot make change until January,but we need someone to step up and start scoring,the problem was partly masked as we were winning games by the odd goal,it looks beyond us to score multiple goals at the moment.
I certainly thought we were capable of scoring today to get a draw but not so confident of scoring two!,in the end we failed to get any!.
We have nine goals from the opening ten matches,way behind the teams around us anď above,same goals against which is a plus,I will take one nils but it would be nice to score a few............

Not sure what you want. Murray is the only striker outside the absolute top sides with loads of goals. Everyone else with that level is going to cost 60 or 70 million. We can't do that at the moment, no matter how loaded the owners are.

If we buy or loan in a striker in January, I think it's going to have to be from overseas and maybe not very prolific, but who the scouting team identifies as fitting our needs in other areas.

I.E., it won't be someone that will get the fans too fired up at first blush, I'd guess.
