Palace 0-1 Wolves: Verdict Thread

I just feel Jota needs a rest, at least for one or two games..everybody knows his quality and such but he need to build up mentally now to continue what we know is in him

Zinchenko should be annoyed that he wasn't prepared to take a chance & come here - pretty sure that we have not really lost anything that much, but he has given that not sure that he has played for MC in any important game
Yeah im not sure we could have started much better than we have and to be fair it has given Doc a chance to prove himself and it is starting to look like he can play at this level fairly well, good on him. I would still like to see another WB come in January but with Jonny and Doc doing so well and points on the table I am a lot more relaxed about things.

Zinchenko is a fool he would have been in this side! His loss.

After 8 games in the Champ we'd scored 13 and conceded 8 - we're doing better defensively in the Prem than we did last season.

Tell me how was Jota was good today. I think some people see things through yellow tinted specs. He lost the ball so many times in good positions. Don't get me wrong, before the season started I thought he would brilliant in the Premier, but he just hasn't stepped up to the mark.

He's been below the standards he set last season, but he doesn't need resting. Dropping, possibly.

Yellow?

Think that Jota has found the step up to PL level harder to acclimatise to given how dominant he was v Championship defenders - also Cav's minor injury may have done him a favour as he was able to watch from the sidelines for the first few games and assess what he needed to do to be successful & to date has only been asked to play 2 'short' bursts when he knows the game is going to end soon.

Do think that those 2 changing positions wouldn't hurt us at all & maybe worth doing

His workrate in attack and defence was first class. He put Jimenez and Costa through in the first half and passed the ball to Jimenez who shot wide for our first opportunity.

What he wasn't was awful.

Agreed, he was far form awful. I think Jota's getting a fair bit of stick based on the first two or three games where he was poor, he's worked his bollocks of since and could have had three assists today. I think that the fact he's not running at defences and scoring goals like he did last season is working against him in some fans' eyes but he's not going to be anywhere near as prolific in this division or cut through Premier League defences like Championship ones. I'm not against Cav starting as he's class but Jota has been nowhere near as bad as some people are making out, and I'll be surprised if Nuno drops him. If he wasn't happy with him he'd have taken him off way earlier than he did.

Saiss up top was just plain weird.

I think the Saiss thing was just a staggered substitution which went a bit weird.

Jota said Raul up beautifully today, sent Jonny clear a couple of times and drew a couple of yellow cards. He might not have beat as many players as Helder today, but he was more effective.

Jota seems to be a bit of a target at the moment, as occasionally he misplaces a pass early on in a game.

Nuno brought Alf on in the same role as he did Saiss several times last season.

I thought he was going 3-5-2 when I saw Saiss come on with Cav and Costa moving inside slightly. Was amazed when Saiss stayed up, even Cass said "What's he doing there dad?"

Very different players though. I get ALF up top as he's strong fast and a decent finsiher. Saiss is just strong though?

Jota was a mixed bag but definately not awful. His workrate is too notch and he was part of several good moves. On the flip side several dodgy passes giving the ball away and a woeful attempt on goal from a great move.

He hasn't fully stepped up yet but he is contributing and far from a liability.

Costa has continued his good form really happy to see him looking so much of a threat again, his crossing looks to have improved too.

Cav will be a genuine threat to a starting position in a few weeks but Jota should not be dropped or rested yet IMO.

Well we didn't have Alf on the bench.....

It also meant we had Saiss's considerable aerial qualities for defending set pieces. Which lets be honest, looked like the only way they'd score.

Yeah, i think that was why he was brought on.

Of course it was but my philosophy is attacking is best defence
