And couldn't possibly have a different reason to decline a second time?
Of course, but the argument "he's done it once before" doesn't hold any water as an increased chance he could this time, as it was a very, very unique and specific reason that time.

More noises coming out about him wanting a break and time away with his family.

Understandable to want a break from the intensity of management, but it doesn't help us.

I hope we give a fair but prompt deadline and stick to it, don't want two or more rudderless defeats to nil before the penny drops and we move onto whoever plan B is

A lot of mixed messages as always out there. Some saying might take a break but also seen set for talks tomorrow and is keen to get back into work quickly.

We sacked Lage a week ago. Sevilla made the World know JL was being sacked, he knew he was being sacked. They managed to get a manager in a day after.

How are we not in a position where he is ready to start Monday? Or anyone for that matter. Surely on Monday we knew if he was up for it?

It's a shame the timing isn't ideal if indeed he is (Mendes's?) first choice, but the next three games are pretty big ones that we can't really afford to limp into without a leader

Another 'nailed on Curbishley'.
Ah 'the betting markets'

I mean, it's the same methodology we've applied to several shite transfer windows really, isn't it?

There's a World Cup soon which Lopetegui can use to have a break away with his family.

Doesn't make any sense he'd insist on one now.

Hope you're right, maybe a bit naive with our track record over the past few years though?

His dad might die?

And he can’t take a break anyway, he will be coaching the majority of the squad who aren’t going.

We are going to have between 3 and 5 players away at the World Cup, the one thing we don't need at that point is a break

He'll be confirmed at some point this week - nothing to suggest otherwise, no issue at all with him taking care of some family stuff - that has to take priority. Hopefully his imminent appointment might spur on the players to put in some kind of performance v Forest because lose that and it makes it even more difficult for us.

If it's later in the week, I'd assume he'd be in the stand for that.

There will be a break for the players though you would presume. We play Arsenal then wouldn't be surprised to see the non World Cup players get a couple weeks off and then return with 2-3 weeks of training, behind closed door games etc leading up to the Boxing Day return

Taking the over the top blindly positive view. They know he wants the job and are happy to allow him a week to sort out shit back home before signing.
If he wasn't interested we would have known before his official sacking and moved on and employed Pedro Martins by now.

Still a risk he can say no of course after spending that week enjoying doing nothing but if he is like any of us, a week living with your parents he will want a break from that as well...

It'll be Julen Lopetegui. I feel for him in terms of the situation with his dad, having been there myself. It's a massive commitment and upheaval for him, but it's the world he works in and it does appear that the stars have finally aligned with him being available and us needing a new man in charge.

I suspect the club will be as accommodating as possible if he needs a few days back in Spain, but I can't blame him for wanting to sort a few lose ends before such a big move.

Completely agree with those that have said him taking the Spain job before should have little to no effect on him doing us over again. Those kinds of opportunities don't come along every day of the week!

Hopefully talks go well today and we get something official mid/end of this week and he's in the stands next weekend. Then from next week I imagine he'll be here with his background team and out working with the players.
