Completely agree with those that have said him taking the Spain job before should have little to no effect on him doing us over again. Those kinds of opportunities don't come along every day of the week!

Very true - and we're a MUCH better prospect now than we were in 2016 of course.

Also, wasn’t it the case that he had the Spain job offered up for immediate appointment while the Wolves deal was still not over the line? That’s putting to one side the relative merits of the role.

He actually took the Spain job on the same day that Fosun officially became our owners. We sacked Ken about a week later.

He had agreed with Jeff/Fosun to take over and the EFL dragged their process on for another 3 weeks longer than they needed. In that time Spain approached him, he hadn't (couldn't) signed anything with us so naturally he took it. Around the same time the EFL approved Fosun and we had that lovely manic 10 days of signing a shit ton of players and employing the only football person Jeff knew personally

There will be a break for the players though you would presume. We play Arsenal then wouldn't be surprised to see the non World Cup players get a couple weeks off and then return with 2-3 weeks of training, behind closed door games etc leading up to the Boxing Day return
I'd hope nothing other than a few days. It would be wasteful to not take advantage of a pre season with a new manager with new ideas. It's not like players are used to have that time of year off.

A shortened break between seasons, a packed first part and then an extended season with not much with regards to breaks they are going to be given time off. We have 6 weeks between Arsenal and Everton games.

2 weeks off still gives a solid month of proper prep time for whoever is in charge. Could of course incorporate a break into a warm weather training camp somewhere

This senior leadership team has previous when it comes to optimistically/naively chasing lost causes with players though, that's what concerns me slightly
I did open with the optimistic line...

Carrying on with that view....Jeff going out there is a plus for me. This is quite far down the line IMO and Jeff going over there is to sort out the things that should be done in Wolverhampton but the family reasons mean Mr L is not travelling over just yet

Seems the penny is dropping in the media that we're bang in trouble.

Writing on the wall for six months, minimum. Frustrates me so much that it went under the radar so much, even among our own fans. A month ago there was still a sizeable contingent that wanted Lage to be given time.

I look at the teams above us in the table and I can't make much of a case for us being better than any of them. We have better players in some areas than quite a few of them, but that's not the same thing.

It's a big job that requires immediate results, it wouldn't surprise me if Lopetegui is having a serious think about it (as well as having to read out the Spanish version of the Radio Times to his Dad, because he won't use the on-screen TV guide).

I wholeheartedly agree with this.

The small positive I am holding on to is Bournemouth are 8th, ffs. And they're abysmal. I still think they'll go down, so if someone in 8th can get relegated, there's hope we can get ourselves up the table with some order put in place. It's all still very bunched up in terms of points (bar the top 3), so there's some hope if we can get on a run. Need to figure out how to score goals, of course.

As it stands right now, Everton & West Ham have shown improvement. Leicester surely cannot continue losing. Palace have a very kind run of fixtures and should head up the table. Newcastle and Brighton are very much a level above us now.

We're in the pool of clubs that are going to struggle this season, along with Villa, Leeds, Forest, Southampton & Fulham (once Mitrovic stops scoring). Looking at that list right now, I wouldn't fancy us against any of them.

Bournemouth and Forest will go down.

We will be fine (if you can class 17th as fine) if we can find a way to score goals. If we can't we are bang in trouble

Is there anyone who doesn't think that, as things stand now, we are one of the 3 poorest teams in he division? We have scored 3 goals FFS. Even with a new manager we are in deep trouble and 17th looks as optimistic as it gets.

I think we'll grind a few results out with someone like Lopetegui in charge. Normally I'd want someone to come in and play expansive front foot football, but I just don't think that is going to work with the players we have available.

We desperately need results out of the next four. I can't see more than one point out of Brighton and Arsenal in November.

Will Fosun chuck money at it in January? *At best* I can see us at 1PPG when the window opens, which is shit and in trouble. Relegation costs them a huge amount - not least given a lot of their other assets have lost massive value over the last 2-3 years.

Surely they must appoint a proper manager now rather than a placeholder and you'd imagine they'll want backing in the market in some way.

You'd think that Collins and Nunes are assets most managers could use in some way, Hwang and Guedes less so...B Traore not sure yet, although looks like some kind of option.

Most of those signings were about backing Mendes rather than Bruno, tbh

Sorry mate, I mean Fosun's other assets, like other companies they own/have a lot of shares in. Whereas we're a bit shit right now but up until the point we do get relegated, we're still worth the same.

I know Guedes is worth 5p :D
