Loan Watch 2024/2025

Weekend round-up.

Fabio Silva played 70 minutes of Las Palma's 1-0 win vs Girona and got the assist for a goal, although it didn't look intentional as he was trying to get header in on goal but it glanced off his bonce instead.

Hugo Bueno also got an assist, this one coming in a 2-0 win for Feyenoord - a great ball across goal which his team mate tapped in.

Nigel Lonwijk kept up his run in the team by playing the full game in a 2-0 home win vs Exeter as Hudds edge into the play-off positions.

Hoever played a full game for Auxerre in a 2-2 draw at Lyon. Caught daydreaming at the back stick for their second to let
Mikautadze nip in and head it home.

Dexter Lembikisa started and played 70 minutes of Yverdon`s 3-2 win at Luzern.

Tyler Roberts kept his place in the team under Kevin Phillips and played the full game, but was part of a home drubbing to Altrincham, 5-0 the final score.

Marvin Kaleta made his first start of the season for Motherwell at home to Celtic, but they ended up losing 3-0 to the champions and he was subbed just after the third goal went in.

Jimmy Storer played in a 4-1 defeat for Darlaston.

On as sub: Chem Campbell played half an hour for Reading as they beat Bristol Rovers 1-0. I see he's just scored tonight, more of that later.

Unused sub: Roberts, Chiquinho, Fraser.
Not in squad: Chirewa, Hodge.

Both the not in squads are out until December at the earliest. In the case of Chirewa I'd imagine it'll be lengthened to the end of Jan and sent back

Unused sub, also not in squad for tonight's cup game.

Do we have a recall clause for Lonwijk?

Lonwijk has been getting good reviews from Huddersfield fans and we would be able to recall him in January but it's a fair jump from league one and they should be looking to buy someone for the position in the January window anyway

Given he is only 22 and fairly inexperienced. It would be better to leave Lonwijk at Huddersfield than risk messing him about again like we did previously. Granted he got injured but there was no way Grasshoppers was the correct move after how well Plymouth went. A good year of development and then he could be ready for the sort of role that Kilman and Toti had, were they were slowly involved and developed in the side.

I’m hoping that he’s allowed to play in the Cup at Tamworth on Friday night on BBC2.

I saw him play 90 mins in the 0-0 draw at Wrexham a week ago. He doesn't look 22 - he's a well developed unit - and as for experience, I thought he showed terrific maturity and no little skill on the left side of a back three. Some ones also taught him some ****housing techniques which led to his first half booking. Considering how exposed we are in the back 3 back 4 positions he's more than ready for a squad / bench place IMHO

Oh - just wish he wasn't trying to look like VVD!

Mid-week update:

Chem Campbell netted for Reading at Stockport, but unfortunately for him they lost 4-1. He was subbed off after 70 mins after the 4th.

Goal 30 seconds in:

Hugo Bueno played 68 minutes of Feyenoord's derby defeat at home to Ajax, 0-2. It was their first defeat of the season and Ajax leapfrog them in the table.

Marvin Kaleta kept his place in the side and played 86 minutes of a 2-1 win at Dundee United. Got beaten down the right for the cross that led to the goal.

Lembikisa played the first half of Yverdon's 3-0 loss at home to Lausanne.

Not in squad: Silva (rested for Copa Del Rey), Fraser

Weekend update:

Hugo Bueno played the full game for Feyenoord in their 3-2 win vs Alkmaar.

Fabio Silva played 87 minutes of Las Palmas' loss at Atletico Madrid. Broke through behind the defence on the break and had a thunderbolt of a shot well saved by Oblak.

Hoever played 85 minutes of Auxerre's 4-0 win at home to Rennes. It was his cross that was cleared to a teammate who fired home the opener.

Marvin Kaleta played 75 minutes of Motherwell's 2-1 loss to Rangers in the League Cup semi-finals.

Chiquinho made a rare start in Mallorca's game at Alaves, playing 56 minutes of their 1-0 loss. He fashioned a chance for himself down the left early on, but shot straight at the keeper.

Nigel Lonwijk played a full game in Huddersfield's shock up 1-0 cup defeat at Tamworth, who are 57 places below them in the league. NL was part of a defence that struggled under the barrage of long throws and the goal came that way after a long throw was palmed into the net by the keeper.

Chem Campbell played 85 minutes of Reading's 2-0 win vs Fleetwood. Missed a sitter after he did all of the hard work bringing the ball down and tapping it past a defender only to lift it over the bar from a few yards out.

Unused subs: Fraser, Lembikisa
Not in squad: Chirewa, Hodge
No game: Roberts.

3 in 9 is a decent start tbf. As Kenny says, hopefully he has a decent season and claw back some money.

Or he could be good in the championship…

Ha, his ego is too big for the Championship I'd imagine.

It's a really sorry state of affairs that I'm giving it some thought.

From the Gruniad....(Rangers fans will disagree at part of it)

Fábio Silva, Wolves to Las Palmas

Considering the paucity of striking options available to Gary O’Neil, it says a lot that the Wolves manager was willing to let Silva head out on loan for a fourth time. At Las Palmas he is starting to show some of the promise that caused Wolves to spend about £35m on a teenager with next to no first-team experience. He has had decent, if not outstanding, sojourns with Anderlecht, PSV and Rangers but, at 22, needs to start delivering on a consistent basis. The Portuguese has taken his three goals well against Villarreal, Valencia and Rayo Vallecano, and impressed with his displays, and is reportedly keen on staying beyond the season.

It's a shame for Fabio that not every team he faces can have a V name.
