Loan Watch 2021-22

Aside from the recent covid issue has there been anything on why Marques hasn't played for Belenenses? If he's not playing for them given our shortage of defenders we'd be better off cancelling the loan and having him on our bench from January.

Mad that we still own Bonatini. May as well have played him as Joké last season.

He's done well in the Championship before and then made zero impact when he returned to Wolves. I don't see anything in his game that worries a Premier League defender.

If you mean the season prior you’d need to remember that

- he got injured after a few games and had not played anywhere near as much as he has for Shef Utd
- he’s doing much better with Shef Utd this season than Swansea in the previous one
- Nuno was in a “backs to the wall” mood for most of the time he was back given how poor we looked everywhere across the pitch

He actually did well in the few minutes he had towards the end of last season. Scored the winner v Brighton

If we play like we do now then MGW will struggle like our forwards do now

Always rated mgw, he's generally struggled because he didn't really fit our formation and wasn't physically developed enough to do the things he wanted to regularly. He seems to have progressed in that sense to the point he's bullying and outpacing championship cbs, which is encouraging for me.

He could pirouette on your front lawn and pop the ball through your bathroom window and you’d still spout the same ‘hasn’t done it in the premier league’ response.

I think games like the Burnley game, if given a proper role rather than parked out wide, he’d increase the speed of our build up play hugely and helped break down teams defending deep. Whereas against Norwich his mobility and ability to stay on the ball would have come in handy.

I’d leave him there the whole season though. Keeps going at this rate with his amount of goal involvements (xG and xA backing it up well atm) he’s either coming back into our team/squad or worth quite a bit of money

Well with no front lawn and a bathroom on the back of the house I'd be in some sort of dreamland for that to have happened, so in that context maybe he would thrive in the Premier League.

He's been around the first team for 4 or 5 years now I think? And he still looks pretty much the same player now as he did then. His movement isn't bad and he's not afraid to try something a bit more ambitious but physically he's always looked miles off to me. Small, not especially quick or strong and I don't think he's good enough with the ball or his brain to make up for it. I mean where does he even play? He's been used as a central midfielder, pushed further towards attack and now Sheff Utd seem to play him wide right essentially.

Maybe he's a bit of a late bloomer and he'll push on more into his twenties or maybe he was an early bloomer instead so now he's been caught up and overshadowed by his peers? I just can't see what impact he's going to have at this level as it stands, stick him in as a number 10 and he'd be bread and butter for the likes of Fabinho, Rice or Phillips to slip in their back pocket.

His loan success is good news for us.

I'd love him to play a part for us from next pre-season and really push on, but it's a big step up from the Champ and the jury has to be out till he does it even slightly consistently for us at top 10 PL level?

People used to think this about David Silva too.
